Yesterday was another hectic one, which was almost entirely the boss’s doing.  He should be busy with patients all day today, thank goodness, so I will have some quiet time for productivity.  That will bring its own challenge, because, although I have plenty of things to do, I don’t have any current deadlines.  Sometimes it is hard for me to focus and get things done when there’s no pressing deadline.

Most people in the US are getting excited about the upcoming solar eclipse – in between freaking out over whatever the orange idiot’s stupidity du jour happens to be.  A lot of people are traveling so that they can be in the path of totality.  We will have 93% of totality right where I live, which is enough for me.  I have my special glasses and an extra pair, too.  Apparently, the eye clinic on campus gave away a bunch of free glasses, purchased from Amazon, and then found they weren’t adequate – oops! – so they’re hustling to correct the problem, lest someone’s eyes be damaged.  Well, that’s one way to drum up business…

Managed to have a chat with chief yesterday and got him to agree to let me increase A’s hours, so happy about that and can tell her today! Made progress on various other fronts too, not least setting up the new payroll system so we can all get paid next week – quite a responsibility 🙂

Today is my last day of the week at work, and should be nice and quiet so I can start tackling things further down the list. Z wound me up last night by innocently asking if I’d done a particular task which is one of the things I’ve been feeling guilty about putting off but other things have been more important. It would be nice to get that task done today… depending on what else crops up. G’s coming round tonight and then I have a lovely long weekend to look forward to. Hurrah!

  • intentional resting
  • STLs
  • finish closing funds
  • review and respond to incredibly long loan email from lawyer
  • where are we with payroll now?
  • EWC minutes?
  • food shopping
  • dinner with G

Chuffed that I basically just shoved myself out of the house yesterday, and went to the cinema. Saw Atomic Blonde, and while Charlize Theron was super-impressively kick ass, the movie/plot was a tad disappointing. Oh well. I hit rush hour on the way home, and it was only afterwards that I realised my anxiety levels were probably way up as this was my first solo outing in months – last couple I’ve at least been going to meet people. Still, I survived!

Also managed to make the most delicious risotto, even if I do say so myself, followed by this week’s GoT – not like me, to be keeping up, but another fantastic episode. And while I’m still swithering over books, I finally just bought the silly computer game – Day of the Tentacle – that I’ve been playing yes/no with since it got remastered. I loved this game as a kid, I probably remember the walkthrough, so it’s purely a nostalgia hit. Oh yeah – and it was on sale! Found it really funny when my cc company then phoned to check that it had been me using the card (it’s not one I usually use, to be fair to them) and not a fraudulent payment… for under £3. Hah!

Today I’m actually really happy to have a day ‘off’ – the other bonus for dragging myself out yesterday, that it feels like that! – with no real plans beyond relaxing 🙂

  • meditation/stretches
  • laundry
  • finish reading The Witches at Wayside Cross
  • review something
  • order contact lenses, see if optician objects
  • ask T about hot choc / order
  • install/try DoTT – it works! Wooo! 🙂
  • make fajitas or enchiladas (new sauce recipe)
  • is P phoning tonight?
  • watch something – Bull, which I’m really enjoying
  • keep trying for early nights!

Yesterday was super hectic at work, that’s for sure.  Fifteen minutes before it was time for me to go home, the boss popped his head in my office to say, “We have to talk before you go home,”  and then he walked away and went to talk to someone else.  As soon as he was done with that person, he went into a closed-door meeting.  I have to give the chatty secretary credit.  I grumbled to her, “What is he doing?  Does he want me to wait here until he’s done with his meeting?”  So she got him out of the meeting to come talk to me.  That was pretty wonderful, and now I must take back all my complaining about her excessive chattiness.

Of course, the absolute insanity of that idiot who has hijacked the presidency keeps getting worse and worse.  A bunch of Republican congress people issued disapproving statements about his latest remarks in support of the white supremacists, but will they actually do anything to stop him?

I have no meetings scheduled today, which is good, but the boss has a lot of free time on his calendar, so it could be another wild day for me.

Another busy day at work yesterday – just when I think it’s about to calm down, more stuff appears to be dealt with. I found out that something I thought I might need to do this week can definitely wait till next week, so that was good at least. And got my documents signed. Then the email went down at the end of the day, which was very annoying! I hope it’s working this morning. Good old NHS IT…

Ended up having dinner at G’s last night, for the first time in a very long time, as he usually comes here. It was very nice to be the one being cooked for, for a change!

Half way through the week now and just a couple of days till my trip to Oxford. Need to get my head down and manage some Feats of Productivity…

  • intentional resting
  • STLs
  • deal with emails from yesterday
  • send off form
  • update minutes and give them to chief
  • talk to chief about closed funds
  • now that accounts not so urgent, crack on with three other sets of minute – seem to spend my life writing minutes…
  • breathe
  • Twin Peaks! I mean it this time!

calypte 15th August

Afternoon! I have actually been up since about 8am, no mean feat given it was after 1 before I turned the lights off (I know, I know – ‘early night’ plan backfired!), but not turning the computer on in lieu of reading and scribbling is a good thing 🙂

Not too chuffed with myself for the late night, but I just couldn’t settle (mind you, that did mean the smoke alarm going off – twice – downstairs at 12:45 didn’t bother me too much!). Think there’s perhaps a little pre-op (T-14!) stress creeping in already, and I was talking about it yesterday – sadly had to decline my invite to ex-colleague’s stag do 😦 Should probably just say I won’t make the wedding, I think it’d be a bit of a strain still at that point. Sigh.

That said, I’m also feeling quite excited at almost having ‘it’ all over, and being able to get on with my life. My head is super-full of so many plans: lifestyle changes, embracing opportunities, making fun more a chosen way of life. Hah – maybe this is also why I can’t sleep! 🙂

Still, the sleeping pattern at least may *have* to change soon – schools start back tomorrow, so noise levels from downstairs will be changing!

Anyway, thoughts firmly back to relaxing! Possibly too many decision to make today: what of the list of meal choices (risotto, fajita/enchilada, chicken casserole, stir fry, pasta – I love food 🙂 ) to prepare (and it might come down to: I need to wash the oven gloves, but I’m likely to get them messy with the risotto – let’s make the risotto! LOL!), whether to buy the book trilogy that’s caught my eye on sale (not that I need more books, argh!), and whether or not to head to the cinema. I will go this week – could go twice, in fact! – but not sure if I’m a bit too snoozy today. Ho-hum: story of my life! 😉 But hey: huzzah for another few weeks of nice choices 🙂

Today may be hectic, as a sponsor wants a crazy amount of information on very short order and I have a training to attend.
