The heat wave has officially reached us here in the mountains.  I think that it is not so bad here because the air is dry, although a lot of people do seem very uncomfortable.

I’m pleased to report that I held fast in my pizza resistance, which was especially challenging because the chatty secretary kept popping into my office to comment on how I wasn’t eating any pizza and wouldn’t I like to take some home, etc., etc.

Speaking of the return of the chatty secretary, I realized yesterday that I am much happier when she is not there.  She’s not a mean person or a particularly bad employee, but she just annoys me, possibly because I am not a chatter.

As expected, Becca does still have some cancer in her third eyelid, so she will be having surgery to remove the entire third eyelid on Thursday.  Poor girl.  I hope it all goes well and she does not experience any complications.

I hurt my back yesterday while – of all things – bending to take some socks from the sock drawer.  I hope I don’t arrive at work to find that someone has once again left the water cooler with an empty jug!

Had fun yesterday running around the office getting out every fan in our possession to try to cool down – allegedly we have aircon but the temperature gauges were all showing 28 degrees! We also have a fundraiser bloke newly installed in our office which is a bit weird – we know him, and he’s all right, but odd to have someone parachuted in. Z finally got round to telling the team this was happening about an hour after it had already happened 😉

Anyway, three more days to go. I took half an hour yesterday to plan my schedule up to the end of August and as usual am hoping things will calm down once we enter the midsummer period – you never know!

Book group this evening. I did enjoy the Signature of All Things, and thought it was an impressive book albeit rather long at 580 pages…

  • intentional resting
  • STLs
  • make list for the day including audit queries
  • deal with emails which cropped up while I was in meetings yesterday
  • deal with audit queries
  • really do want to get fund admin done – has been hanging around for a week now
  • continue updating Word document
  • book group
  • come home and collapse

It was another pleasant weekend, which I wish could have been longer!  The girls and I enjoyed a couple of early morning hikes, and I really got the house ship-shape.  I’m especially pleased to have gotten to basement in order.  Now we can sleep down there if fireworks noise drives us to it.

Our little valley seems to have been draped in a pocket of coolness all weekend, while the rest of the state is suffocating in heat.  Fire season has started, and one poor small town in Utah was evacuated.  Our little respite of coolness is expected to end today.

J is taking Becca to the vet today, because there is still a spot on her third eyelid.  I’m prepared to hear that she will need surgery to remove the third eyelid.  There’s also an afternoon pizza party at work, as my boss has got it into his head that we need to have a farewell party for a woman that no one is sorry to see leave.  My diet is finally working, thanks to the 10-day hormonal balancing program, so I don’t want to indulge in pizza.  I hope that I feel that way when I actually have to look at pizza this afternoon!

The news is definitely a thing to avoid these days. Awful, awful times.

Enjoying the second of my planned lazy days after some late nights. Friday evening I joined my cinema buddies in St Andrew’s Square to watch Labyrinth on the big outdoor screen – it was fun, albeit probably the worst of the 3-day ‘festival’ to have picked. Also noted that the city centre is getting ‘that way’ – which is to say, the start of the couple of months locals usually want to avoid it! I do love my city, and the festivals are part of that, but oy, when it gets that busy!!

It’s also been swelteringly hot. I feel a bit guilty for largely avoiding the great outdoors, given my vitamin D issues, but…! Hmm. Absolutely stewed on Saturday anyway, first just standing at the bus stop, then lugging snack supplies around for the ‘watchathon’ – half a series of American Gods. Overate like mad, so on a bit of a relieved-cutting-back – albeit with a bit of leftover pizza 😉

Not sure when I’ll get my thyroid function test results back, but fingers crossed they’ll agree to up my thyroxine dose. I do think it’s having a bit of an effect, but not as much as I’d like. Still, not thinking too much about medical stuff right now if I can help it!

Today:

  • laundry
  • make spicy tomato chicken (very healthy!)? Might leave it ’til tomorrow
  • detroll
  • watch something – finish Arrow, perhaps?
  • another review
  • meditation
  • earlier night

Getting so tired now of waking up in the morning to find out that something horrible has happened overnight… now it’s white people attacking Muslims, which was predictable I suppose (indeed, we had a conversation on this subject at lunch last week).

It’s very hot here and I had to sleep with the windows wide open last night. Got up at 3.45 to see an amazing sunrise! Then back to bed, obviously 🙂

Had a good weekend, anyway, and got Mum’s tax return done which is a relief! Now moving into the second week of the audit and almost looking forward to being in the office as it’s much cooler there 🙂

  • intentional resting
  • call eye hospital
  • STLs
  • various emails to get info for auditors, mainly property related
  • website meeting (I like the woman doing our new website, but she is quite argumentative!)
  • continue working on Word document
  • clear up carnage
  • Twin Peaks
  • continue reading “Who Saw Him Die” by Sheila Radley, which I think G found on the book exchange, quite an old one but am getting into it now

Yesterday was an enjoyable work day.  I just saw the boss in the morning, when we chatted about some work things and then about politics for a few minutes.  Then I set about accomplishing many things while listening to a really good online radio channel I’ve recently discovered.  It’s a relief to work without the frequent interruptions of the overly-chatty secretary.  I had lunch with my friend at a good Lebanese restaurant and ran an errand on campus.

Toward the end of the day, I spent some time in negotiations for our new office space.  It’s looking more and more likely that the move will occur and that we’ll be occupying a larger space on the top floor of our two-story building.  I’m involved in the design choices, which is fun.  I’ve just about figured out a way to have all the private offices be window offices, which means that I’d get a window, too!

Today should be another quiet one.  The boss is on service, so he should be out of sight.  I may even wear blue jeans!

Friday at last, which means the worst of the audit is probably over.  It’s been quite exhausting actually as all the other work still goes on, but there are so many interruptions and so much to do. I just have to keep breathing… I’m going home tomorrow to see my mother and have to do her tax return – will be glad when that’s done too! At least a week today I’ll be on my way to Burgundy 🙂

  • dental hygienist, joy…
  • STLs
  • continue Word document, it’s getting there
  • talk to Z about phone call yesterday
  • continue fending off auditors
  • if time, do some fund admin as that’s stacking up now
  • ditto, read C’s latest article
