enjoyed a very nice weekend.  The weather was gorgeous, just a bit cooler now, and I enjoyed some long mountain hikes with the dogs.  I am starting to see little signs of encroaching Autumn in the woods now.  I also enjoyed working on J’s painting.  It’s been a long time since I painted in acrylics, and I’m enjoying the medium very much.

J has a slow week at work this week, and I am going to take a mental health day tomorrow so we can have a full day of recreation, probably including a visit to the cinema.  Meanwhile, there are plenty of things to do at work today, including a morning meeting with my favorite nurse.

SL’s FTF, Mon 31st July

Had a nice weekend here, despite my cold still lingering somewhat. Reading, writing, catching up on TV (is anyone watching the new Top of the Lake?) and made it to Highgate yesterday so was pleased about that. Had a nice evening with G last night and we ended up looking at a couple of houses in France followed by a good session of Slovenian accordion music 🙂

Now trying to remember what I have to do this week. Finish off the management accounts, do the VAT return, write the minutes from last week’s Big Meeting, and do two sets of accounts for smaller charities, plus organise our team tour of properties tomorrow. Piece of cake!

  • prep delicious lunch – discovered that peaches go very well with Roquefort!
  • STLs
  • talk to chief? debrief from last week or is it too late now?
  • organise property tour
  • finish management accounts
  • make a start on VAT
  • month end home finances
  • hassle my brother who still hasn’t replied to the email I sent him about three weeks ago, cheers!

I felt pretty good about my level of productivity yesterday.  The boss came in early for a conference call, and since chatty secretary had not yet arrived, he wanted me to set up the conference phone for him.  It’s funny to me that he is not capable of plugging a phone into the jack and dialing a number.  Later that morning, someone brought in a home-made cake for the boss’s birthday.  It’s amazing what a stir that cake caused.  Everyone was chatting about it and going back and forth to look at it.  It was a major focus of attention.  I think of it as the Cake of Disruption.  Obviously, the entire office is severely sugar deprived.

The boss is negotiating to see if we can move our division out of Neurology and into Radiology.  This would be a big relief from a financial perspective.  Any way, I’m not quite sure what today will bring.  I might be prevailed upon to attend a longish meeting this morning, and the boss will be around most of the day, so my time may get caught up in meetings.  If not, I aim for another day of productivity.

As for the weekend, I’ve acquired some new acrylic paints and a couple of small canvases, and I intend to start on a painting.

sleep

SL’s FTF, Fri 28th July

Very relieved that it’s Friday at last, and slept better last night than I have done for some time. Didn’t even get woken up by a 7 a.m. message from a colleague today…

Looking forward to a peaceful weekend here knocking this cold on the head and I’m hoping to go to Highgate on Sunday. I suspect the trees and fresh air will do me good.

Have a good weekend, everyone!

  • STLs
  • PAYE reference
  • management accounts
  • catch up with Z, if she makes it in (boiler crisis!)
  • deal with whatever other random things come up
  • listen to music, do some writing
  • find another book to read or maybe continue North Star which is so thought-provoking I can’t read it all at once!

Yesterday was super hectic at work, and I felt poorly, with some sort of pleurisy viral thing.  Today is supposed to be meetingless, and the boss should be tied up with patients all day, so perhaps it will be quieter.  I have my exploding inbox to deal with plus lots of other things.  Yesterday, the chatty secretary delegated a task to me, and I surprised myself by asking her, “So, are you turfing this to me?”  That put the task back in her court, and I was proud of myself, as I am not always nearly so assertive.

Anyway, the plan is to get a bunch of things done today, at least five, and also to go home early if I’m still feeling ill.

SL’s FTF, Thurs 27th July

Thanks for the well wishes yesterday. I’m feeling significantly better after a day spent mostly sleeping and reading, so I’ll go in to work today. Now the big meeting’s over, I need to set my priorities for the next few weeks. The VAT return is hovering but I can’t face that today! Easy things only 🙂

  • STLs
  • deal with emails
  • where are we with the loan, bank manager is hassling me a lot now
  • make list!
  • revise stat acs
  • hopefully finish off management acs
  • collect parcel
  • call Mum
  • early night

The return of the boss went better than expected.  It seems as if his time away has left him feeling more peaceful.  He brought back a scarf made of Scottish tartan as a gift for me, which was definitely a surprise.  We did spend about an hour discussing immediate and future plans.  I suggested that we might consider moving our operation to a different institution, perhaps even to a neighboring state, and he was not averse to the idea, although I’m sure that if anything like that were to happen, it would be in the distant future.

This morning is going to be packed with meetings, so today’s productivity will suffer.
