calypte 31st May

Had a really lovely day with my folks yesterday. Sm and I hit the shops for a couple of hours – I bought a jumper in the sale which is totally unwearable in the current heat! – and then my dad joined us for lunch and Pirates of the Caribbean. Not a classic, but it was fun enough. I’d been feeling kind of bleh from spending 3 days sat around the flat – mainly on purpose, but it doesn’t do me that much good. So plan today is to chivvy myself along to Colossal, on its last day at the cinema. Had a couple of good reviews, so why not? Also means a little bit of time out in the sun, which I’ve been dreadful at doing, despite actually needing more vitD! And yes, I’m aware sitting in a darkened room doesn’t count, but there’s plenty of walking either side 😉

  • RSVP to wedding – I meant to make/send a card, but today’s the due date so online it is!
  • cinema
  • collect prescription
  • book tickets for Take That live cinema broadcast – sm and K are both super-keen, I’m not really but I suppose it’s something a bit different? o_O
  • last ep of Happy Valley – I’m amazed I was able to stop with one to go last night, but I was shattered!
  • review something – waaaay behind! One of the NetGalley outstanding ones
  • meditation
  • earlier night, with book

My inbox really was the Inbox of Doom yesterday, full of huge tasks that still aren’t all accomplished.  Then one of our docs realized he had misunderstood an agreement we’d reached, so I learned that all of the interviewing I’ve been doing was for naught and had to come up with a different personnel plan on the fly.  Fortunately, I was able to get everyone on board with my plan.

Crumbs, end of May already. Where has the time gone?

Had a very productive day at work yesterday, particularly at the end of the day when I had an hour and a half by myself just working on my spreadsheets and updating them and hunting discrepancies. Three more days of that and they might actually be ready by the weekend!

It was a pleasant long weekend with perfect weather.  I made a nice start on getting a garden planted and did lots of hiking and reading.

Today I’m starting an intensive, ten-day eating plan that is supposed to help nourish and heal the endocrine system – liver, thyroid and gallbladder.  It will be interesting to see how it goes.  Knowing that I’d be starting this plan today, I let myself have a free day of eating whatever I liked yesterday.  It wasn’t anything too drastic, but I did eat some sugar and found that it left me feeling not so great.

SL’s FTF, Tues 30th May

Had a good weekend – a nice time with my mother and the cats, and yesterday actually started writing! 1,000 words down, just another 79,000 or so to go…

I also decided to get hold of some “intentional resting” meditation downloads (more info here http://www.intentionalresting.com/) and am going to see how I get on with those. Did the first one yesterday and it was only 5 min and very soothing, so it’s just possible I might stick with it 😉

A four day week this week, and Z is away so it should be quiet which is just as well as I need to get my head down and get the accounts finished off this week and next.

  • clear up carnage from last night
  • meditation
  • STLs
  • Inbox of Doom
  • check LRT accounts
  • LRT agenda papers
  • check 52c accounts

  • writing?
  • continue reading Fred Vargas book, am enjoying this one a lot (Dog Will Have His Day)

Yesterday was a bit turned around, after starting the day off by leaving Becca and Elbee at the vet.  They don’t like being left, although it was a little better because they were there together.  Becca’s procedure was pretty easy, and she was feeling fine when I picked them up in the late afternoon.  Elbee’s procedure was more involved.  She ended up having a tooth pulled, and she was unhappy and crying all evening.  She is a stoic soul, so it worried me a lot to hear her crying, poor girl.  Now there’s a few days’ wait until both of their biopsy results come in.  The bill was over $1500, so I need to get busy and submit to the insurance so I can get some of it back!

My dental visit was the best ever.  The dentist has a new junior assistant who is very good at keeping everyone on time.  I waited only five minutes, then she took my x-rays and started herding the dentist and hygienist in to see me.  The whole thing took just 30 minutes, which is shockingly fast for this dentist.  The hygienist, who I’ve known for a long time, told me that over the winter he had a head-on auto collision, and then hit deer with his car on two separate occasions.  Ye gods!  At this point, I”d be ready to give up driving altogether.

Today will be another different sort of day at work.  I’ve scheduled four second interviews and am going to sit in on all of them, so that will take up much of the day.  I’ll try to accomplish a thing or two in between.  Then it’s off for my own long weekend!

sleep as long as I want!

SL’s FTF, Fri 26th May

Yesterday’s trip to Newbury went well and the meeting was more constructive than usual, partly due to the absence of one or two  trouble-makers. The tea party was nice too and we had a lovely day for it.

I wasn’t so happy to be woken up at 1.30 by music coming from the building next to ours which belongs to a famous advertising agency. That carried on for two hours… as if it wasn’t difficult enough to sleep at the moment with it being so hot!

Today will be mainly dealing with emails and whatever other substances have hit the fan while I’ve been out of the office, and then this evening I’m off to see my mother for the weekend. At least it’s a bank holiday weekend and an extra day off is very welcome.

  • packing
  • STLs
  • Inbox of Doom
  • deal with stuff I brought back yesterday
  • revise minutes
  • payments
  • if time, agenda papers for meetings
