Work is so pleasant when the boss and the annoying person are both out.  I continued to make progress with my backlog of tasks yesterday, and I also enjoyed a lunch out with my friend K.  I do have one meeting today, which I hope will be short, and the annoying person will be back, but nothing will stop me from completing a few more important tasks.  High on the list is a task that I dread because it makes me confront how much our cash reserves are dwindling.  I must be brave and persevere!

SL’s FTF, Fri 28th April

Had a very quiet, productive day at work yesterday and am now back on track regarding my timetable, thank god!

Got up early and have been for a walk this morning – no protests disturbing the peace today, just a bloke getting in my way skipping, and a few pigeons under the impression I was Pigeon Guy…

It’s a bank holiday weekend and I’m off to see my mother tomorrow which will be a welcome change of scene. Have a good weekend everyone!

  • walk
  • STLs
  • draft revised payroll letter
  • website stuff
  • code JG pages
  • email to fundholders
  • do some checking especially PRO accounts
  • crack on with March CHA accounts
  • clear up carnage
  • collect parcels
  • catch up on the Good Fight
  • finish the Case of the Man Who Died Laughing

It was a very pleasant day at work yesterday, with both my boss and the new problem employee out of the office.  I’m steadily digging myself out of the huge backlog, which feels good, and I had a fun lunch date with my two work friends.  (We meet once a month and code our meeting ARK, which are the first letters of each of our names.)  One friend works at the Cancer Institute and also plays regular bridge with some high muckety mucks at the university, so she had lots of interesting insights into the Evil BP/CEO uproar.  I learned that there is some evidence showing that the evil VP might be using the university in an international money laundering scheme.  Imagine that!

I have another lunch date today and, I hope, lots of quiet time for more Feats of Productivity.

SL’s FTF, Thurs 27th April

Enjoyed having Z sitting opposite me yesterday, and got a lot done although ended up spending a lot of time sorting out one particular mess and still only got it half-sorted as need to discuss with chief what to do about the rest… Today I need to crack on and get the VAT return done, which should be possible.

The German wine tasting last night was interesting too. I loved the white wines but the reds weren’t my thing at all!

  • clear up carnage
  • STLs
  • VAT return
  • allocations, if time
  • food shopping
  • catch up on the Good Fight
  • continue reading the Case of the Man Who Died Laughing

Realised I’m joining the group bosslessness, although I’m doing it by removing myself from the office 😉 Glad again today, so feels like the right choice, and I already had tomorrow and Friday booked as holiday as I’m expecting my best friend this evening – she has an exam in town, and I’d always said she could stay with me when she needed to. So, she arrives tonight, and we’ll have tomorrow after her exam and Friday morning before her train to catch up 🙂

I’ve already spent part of the morning tidying up a little, and very aware of how tired I am around that. I also had my first urge in ages towards creativity – drawing, writing, anything! – this morning, which again makes me question how I’ve been using my time mainly for work and chores. Frankly, I think I’m just tired of ‘coping’ – a near-week off should do me a lot of good!

Their Finest was really good yesterday. It wasn’t as sweet and fluffy as I expected, and I got a bit snuffly at more than one point! Really enjoyed it overall, though.

Yoga was also amazing. Tough, yes, but I felt so good for it. Hopefully will make it to tai chi next week, since it’s a bank hol.

Inspired by SL, I’ve also started re-reading The Four Day Win. It’s making a LOT of sense, and also chimed very well with my experience last summer where I lost 10lb practically without trying – certainly without ‘dieting’. Realised, post-surgery (and not yet in the dragging on of this year’s stuff) and in full recovery mode, I was more at peace with my body and in tune with my needs than usual, rather than rushing around trying to do everything and maybe not paying attention where I should. Hmm. Eye-opening!

The big excitement from yesterday was an afternoon email from the university president announcing that the cancer center CEO (who had been abruptly dismissed via email last week) has been reinstated to her position, and the reporting structure has been changed so that she will now report directly to the president, rather than to the evil VP for medicine.  So the evil VP’s power grab ended up giving the CEO more power.  Many, including me, are now hoping that the evil VP will be dismissed.  No one has any trust for her now, and it has already had an impact on faculty recruitment.

Aside from that excitement, it was a relaxed and productive day at work.  I’m hoping for more of the same today, as well as a pleasant lunch date with two friends.

SL’s FTF, Wed 26th April

So much for my great plan at work – got completely derailed yesterday by other people needing things, although I did get a little bit of my own work done at the end of the day. Also, Z has now moved desks to where Needy & Greedy used to sit, so she’s opposite me now which will be very nice. I just have to not spend all my time chatting to her 🙂

G has invited me to a wine tasting this evening of German wines which sounds interesting.

  • clear up carnage from last night
  • STLs
  • deal with residue of stuff from yesterday
  • email VAT guy
  • crack on with account allocations
  • ideally get my TB to balance before I leave for the day
  • meet G, wine tasting
