12/30/16 ftf, wren

Today is the first of four days off from work.  The doctor phoned me last night with the biopsy results from last week’s surgery.  The biopsy showed something called “complex hyperplasia with atypia,” which has a 25-50% percent change of becoming cancerous.  25-50% percent is considered high  The recommended treatment is a full hysterectomy.  Sometimes the hysterectomy will reveal actual cancer, in which case there might be some additional treatments, such as chemo.  Well, I’m glad that I took the abnormal bleeding seriously and soldiered through all those unpleasant tests.

Anyway, it’s time for me to start adjusting and preparing.  Preparing means finding the best treatment options, getting things in order at work, getting things in order at home, and planning for a recovery period.  I want to have the minimally invasive hysterectomy because the hospital time and the recovery time are way shorter than with a traditional hysterectomy.  There are no surgeons where I live who do this type of surgery, but there probably are in the nearest city.  My mom has an excellent surgeon who did this procedure for her, so going to Arizona for the surgery would be an option…but would that be emotionally too difficult?  Speaking of emotional stuff, I am terrified of staying overnight in a hospital.  I guess that coming to terms with that should be part of my preparation.  Anyway, here’s my Friday to do list:

Snow hike with dogs

groceries

phone Peter

deep clean one room in the house

tidy up whole house

strength training

read and soak

water plants

Yesterday was nice and also kind strange at work. The nice part was that the campus was practically deserted.  I love the quiet.  Today will be even more quiet, and I’m going to wear blue jeans.  🙂

The strange part of the day was that I couldn’t access any of my work site applications, due to a problem with the university’s new two-factor identification log-in system, which went live yesterday.  So many people were experiencing problems that it also wasn’t possible to connect with anyone from IT support.  And then, half-way through the day, my e-mail stopped working.  So I was limping along with a double handicap, plus being sick.  Nevertheless, I did accomplish a few things.

Computer problems and illness aside, I’m hoping to accomplish a few more things at work today, and then it will be off for a lovely four-day weekend.  I’ve decided that the two-day work week is my ideal.

Hi wren! 🙂 Yup, still on holiday, but as ever I do more lists on non-work days. Back home after being, uh, at home (aka my dad’s – terminology is confusing ;)) for the festivities, with a few days respite before Hogmanay’s mayhem! Loads of things I could be doing, not least making use of some of my lovely pressies, including some new zentangle pens and coloured ATCs, a gorgeous Doodle Zen book, a big tub of Lush goodies, some new card making kit (ahem!), and a palette for my new paints 🙂 Think 2017 might be a creative year? 🙂

However, I’m also thoroughly enjoying being totally lazy, so despite wishes to get my behind to the gym, out to the cinema, or any of the things below, am equally happy staying in my jammies and noodling away for the day!

Time-critical:

  • pay road tax
  • pay cc
  • prep salad
  • make soup – my favourite kind of soup: super-bargainous veggies on offer soup! 🙂
  • finish wrapping pressies (for xmas 2!)
  • watch Flash
  • watch Arrow

Other stuff, for the next couple of days, perhaps?:

  • bleach washing machine
  • laundry – 2nd batch
  • tidy desk again
  • watch Ghost in the Shell before it leaves netflix?
  • paint toenails
  • detroll
  • sort eBooks
  • review of year blogs posts – books, movies, scanner topics

I believe all the other ftf-ers are enjoying their holidays, so this may be writing to myself, but it still helps to have my list.  I’ve had a lingering cold since before Christmas, and my holidays were mainly about resting up.  Today and tomorrow I’ll be going in to work, hence the list.  It should be extremely quiet in the office, so my plan is to just quietly go about with accomplishments while drinking lots of tea.

List to keep me right with the last-minute-kinda chores! These are the things I reckon I ‘need’ to get done before heading home tomorrow afternoon:

  • emergency buying of marzipan! (the stuff in the cupboard was, urm… yeah o_O)
  • get free batteries offer while I’m out
  • lunch w/T
  • cut out marzipan stars
  • dip those and boozy fruits in choc
  • wrap sm’s top/chocs
  • could make a start on wrapping ss’s ones
  • finish detrolling / maybe paint nails
  • use up rest of sf veg (dinner)
  • finish the soup (lunch)
  • buy TtR pc version in the steam sale 🙂
  • watch Arrow before it disappears – argh!
  • dishes
  • road tax – before the end of the year
  • PACK! – don’t forget tablets, contact lenses, nightwear, makeup, laptop, champagne (!), paper and pens, zentangle ‘kit’, and PRESENTS! 🙂
  • box up boozy fruits
  • brekkie dishes

And never did quite get to the cards… worth trying this evening/tomorrow morning, or give up now?! o_O

Early Christmas in that half my kindle wishlist just hit 99p/£1.99 so may have just bought enough books to see me through a post-surgery convalescence (because I didn’t have tons already ;)). Particularly chuffed with the rest of the Rivers of London series, which I’d been eyeing up, and As You Wish, the Princess Bride behind-the-scenes book.

And yes, surgery. Trying to get my head around the fact that it IS happening, it’s just the extent and details to get sorted. This is not a happy thought, although I don’t know why this in particular is freaking me out so much or so hard to grasp the reality of, given things I’ve already survived. Anyway, trying to get my brain to stop whirring over it by reminding myself that as of – oh, about right now – there is absolutely nothing I can do/organise/chase/whatever until January, so I might as well chill out and enjoy the festivities.

Wishing you all a very happy and relaxing time of it!

SL’s FTF, Friday 23rd Dec

Last day at work today and then 10 days off! Am so ready for that. I got some very satisfying shredding done yesterday (years’ worth of board papers from Needy and Greedy) and today will be more checking and filing and generally trying to clear the decks. Off home this evening lugging a very heavy suitcase full of presents. My brother and SIL are coming up tomorrow, will be good to see them. Have a great Christmas everyone and Happy New Year!
