Yesterday was pleasant, especially since it was just a half day of work. We hosted an informal visit from a potential faculty candidate, and it went very well. It was my idea to bring the candidate out for a low key time when he could meet a few key people in a more social way and explore the area, as opposed to the usual candidate visits which are very structured and crammed with formal interviews and meetings. It turned out to be a good idea that left a distinctly favorable view of our center on the candidate, which was the whole idea. Strangely, my boss remembers this as being the idea of our secretary and me, when it was actually just my idea, which is something that he does sometimes, mainly, I think, because he views all female staff as a mass of undifferentiated servant class.
Anyway, once I got home, the hot water heater phoned to say they would be several hours late, so that meant that I could take the dogs on a nice, long hike. When the workers arrived, they were very cheerful and even borrowed a broom to clean up their mess, and now we’re set with hot water and no leaks for another decade or so.
I really need to make progress on one particular project today, so I will put that in the forefront and get at it. I hope the world will cooperate and not make any unanticipated demands on my time!
