I accomplished some big tasks and a few little tasks at work yesterday.  The boss returned for a little bit in the afternoon and seems in good spirits.  We have a visiting professor in town today, which will take up a good bit of time.  Still, I’m feeling well enough in control of work duties that I may even walk to my one meeting (it’s a long-ish walk for work, 30 minutes each way).

I have a long-term goal of focusing more and more of my morning exercise time on strength training.  After my injury, I had to drastically scale back on strength training (and even stop for awhile).  It’s time to make big push toward getting the muscle back.

calypte 31st August

Best news: my half-day return to work yesterday went really well. I even got hugs 🙂 Including an unexpected one from the boss, who’s clearly had ‘the chat’ from HR and said all the right things about just being good to have me back an okay for me to go at my own pace. Still, the half day was plenty and it was good to be able to go for a coffee and stroll in the sunshine and know that I’d have today ‘off’.

And I feel like I need it! Feet are complaining at long walks almost every day since last weekend (I downloaded the Google Fit app, and am pleased and amazed to see an hour’s worth of meandering, just getting between places – but still not 10K steps o_O), and I still haven’t cracked the sleeping patterns. Up early again today for more workmen, who of course still haven’t turned up! Also unsurprised – if disappointed – that so far only one neighbour has given me cash by the time I’d asked for it. Sigh. I guess they’re maybe waiting for the work to be finished – not considering that maybe I need to make arrangements ahead of that?! Ended up emptying a savings account and taking a chunk out of an ISA yesterday, just to know I could cover this bill. I hate people. Sorry – rant over!

Anyway. Today is an indoors day for me, apart from hanging out yet more laundry. I have zero plans, really, just loads of pottering which is a lovely feeling 🙂 Generally in a good mood – seem to have a bit of structure for the whole rest of the year, between work building up, stress management and art courses, and of course Nano (eek!). My priorities seem pretty clear between that lot, exercise and healthfulness – not exciting, I suppose, but I think I’ve had enough of that for now!

Onwards!

SL’s FTF, Wed 31st Aug

It’s definitely starting to feel like autumn now – just went for a walk round the square and the leaves are beginning to fall. My favourite time of year.

Work is gradually getting under control and the to-do list slowly coming down so that’s good for morale too!

  • walk
  • STLs
  • pension stuff
  • LRT minutes
  • call Trust finance woman about payroll, as she hasn’t replied to my email – must stop putting this off!
  • if time, some checking
  • food shopping
  • dinner with G
  • check with him about 5th Oct when my mother will be in town

T’s 31st August

Yesterday I came back to worktown, went for long walks, reconnected with the beautiful town, and with the lonely life of “just work&books”. I like the social life with clever and brilliant people who can hold a conversation. And I also like the quiet silent time when I plunge deep down inside my brain and test theories, ideas and simple thoughts. I like both of them very much, now it’s time to switch gears. Yesterday I didn’t get much done, with he travelling and unpacking and transitioning. The flat is a mess, it gives me headaches. Every horizontal surface is covered with books and papers. I will have to devote some time to making it liveable. I think that’s one of the reasons yesterday I walked 14000 steps. That, and the fine weather. On to today! I plan to get at least 6 things done

  • finish reading the student’s thesis: chap. 4 (monitor how long it takes)
  • tackle the heap of projects:
    • Paper Vlad: final checks, final revisions and editing, send it out (monitor how long it takes)
    • paperHumanitas: go on with  freewrite/first draft for 45′
    • paperLogos: freewrite/first draft for 45′
    • CD: revise from p. 19 for 30′ and see where I get
    • M/B: plan who else can I get involved in the book?: brainstorm wildly and draft emails (30′)
    • read Sandler for 30′
    • Prepare Sand. pdf
    • read H. for 30′
    • post N’s parcel
    • clear the corner with the mould problem
    • grooming
    • take clothes to the laundry service
    • @ 3 pm: office hours (order books for the library)

ETA Uhm… as usual I end up doing things totally unrelated to my list, I thought I might as well keep track of what I actually do!

  • bought a new pair of minimalist sandals in red
  • bought a sort of concealer for spider veins in my legs (can you tell I plan to keep wearing skirts even when back to work? it’s such a beautiful warm weather!)
  • went for my first coffee in my favourite bar in worktown (and I hope the list of indulgencies stops here!)

Had an interesting meeting with my therapist last night and am still absorbing all of it.  The upshot of it all is basically that when I get an uncomfortable feeling about someone, I need to treat it as a sign that it’s time to stop and assess the person, maybe enlisting a trusted opinion in doing so, because I so often ignore my early warning signals and later regret it.  Also, I need to look at my needs to always be very accurate and very fair and recognize that I may at times carry these things too far.

Today is the last of the glorious days of bosslessness, and there’s still a lot for me to do.  Before I get to anything else, I have to address my e-mail situation – again.  Just before leaving last night, I saw that none of the e-mails I’d send all day were actually sent.  Frustrating!  I’ll need to copy each one into a Word document, then reboot my computer.  Sometimes rebooting will trigger the e-mails to be sent, and sometimes it just causes them to disappear.  If they disappear, then I can start all over with copy and past from the Word document.

Also, I would very much like to follow the examples of Moosie, SL, calypte and Turandot and give more time to my creativity.  That feels like an almost impossible task.

Anyway, the watchword for today is focus.

SL’s FTF, Tues 30th August

Had a very nice 3 day weekend, hanging out at home with cats and family. I inflicted the Long Way to a Small Angry Planet on my SIL who started reading it immediately, hope she enjoys it! Also it seems that the “independent writing retreat” is likely to be held at the time I could make it, which is good for morale and means I need to think some more about how to fix my plot or even how to start again, as I want to be writing something if I go on it.

A gentle 4 day week this week, starting with a trip to the dental hygienist which has been put off for long enough 😦

  • hygienist
  • STLs
  • deal with emails
  • priority today: LRT minutes
  • also hope to get some checking done
  • clear up carnage
  • a lot of home admin to deal with this evening – book train tickets etc.

I was scrolling down the categories to get to my name and wondering about all the ftfers who we don’t hear from anymore.   Vex’s child must be in the toddler stage by now…or maybe beyond?

I enjoyed a peaceful weekend.  We’re having perfect autumn weather, so there were some wonderful long hikes.  I also got the house in order and did a lot of reading (there never seems to be quite enough reading time!).  I also found the anniversary gift that I want to make for J

The boss is back in town but at an all-day workshop today.  This means that he may be in phone contact but I’ll otherwise have some quiet time to continue with more Feats of Productivity!  I was finally able to take the problem employee off our payroll on Friday, as the 90 days that she had to find work reassignment as an accommodation for her “disability” expired.  It felt good to finally be done with her!
