calypte 29th July

Less of a FTF and more an accomplishment list!

  • doc appt – and with that, no upcoming appointments booked for the first time in *ages* – whee! (okay, results still to get but still)
  • made sausage casserole and baked potatoes for T for lunch
  • meal plan for the week
  • groceries
  • The Biggy: finally got all the documentation together/scanned for the insurance company, so that’s now sent off. Fingers crossed!

Spent a good chunk of the morning looking online at laptops, since mine’s now pretty old and just developed another problem – just the cable, which I could replace, but it gets to the point where spending money fixing an old thing seems pointless. Looking at this one in the first instance (and yes, the fact that it’s purple is a plus!) – sort of exciting, but also I’m just too aware of how much hassle all the new set up will be (not to mention the software I’ll lose, sniff). Mustn’t procrastinate too much – there’s no ‘perfect’ option, without throwing far too much money at it, so just get a decent one!

Wednesday’s course continued to be good. This week was mostly a chatty one, about emotions etc. Raised some very interesting points for me, stuff I can start to look at in a new light – for instance, the lead was quite surprised to learn that I don’t have a lot of anger about all that’s happened, but on the other hand I am sort of kicking myself for not making a lot of better choices/changes during the past 15 years. Pointless to think about that, but still a motivator going forward. Particularly with exercise – the mini-session on that was stressing little and often, and building up. Definitely something for me to work on, as I tend to dismiss a 5-minute walk as too inconsequential, but then wait until circumstances ‘allow’ for a bigger session – which may or may not happen soon! I get it, just… putting it into practice is tough!

Our homework for the week was to come up with a list of 20 things that make us happy, and to take at least one opportunity to be really nice to ourselves with something that stimulates a sense – the smell of a bath oil, feel of a handcream, sight of a bunch of flowers, etc. I usually consider myself pretty self-indulgent (being single and child-free helps!), but actually paying attention to doing something lovely is no bad thing!

Starting with a trip to the cinema this evening, catching up with Star Trek Beyond. Looking forward to it 🙂

Last day of the work week!  Temps have been very hot for the past couple of weeks and it seems as if everyone is complaining.  Personally, I don’t mind so much, as long as it cools down at night.

One of our doctors is really falling down on the job.  This has been going on for a couple of years but seems to be getting much worse.  It’s widely suspected that he has a substance abuse problem.  It’s heartbreaking to see and also worrisome, because we are already down by one doctor, and if this one loses his license or has to go to rehab, my boss will be the only one left to take care of everything.  I continue to warn the boss that we must make a contingency plan and hope that he is listening!

I was a little better at accomplishing yesterday and so will commit to completing another five things on my work list again today.  Then it’s on to the weekend!

I’m definitely not in Feats of Productivity mode at work these days.  Today I’ll set the goal of completing five things on my work list.  Maybe that will help hold me to a standard of greater productivity.

I’m feeling unexpectedly elated at the official nomination of Hillary Clinton.  It’s quite a big deal in this country to have such a qualified woman as the presidential nominee from one of the major parties.  Day 2 of the Dem’s convention was really upbeat and inspiring, aside from a few Bernie supporters who had temper tantrums.  Lots of great speeches about Mrs. Clinton’s character and past achievements, lots of good stuff.

I kind of frittered the work day away yesterday.  Part of it was due to lengthy interruptions from faculty and staff and part was because of my own lack of focus.  I also am probably procrastinating on certain tasks because they will put our Center’s shaky financial situation right in front of me.  I’ll aim to do better today.

SL’s FTF, Wed 27th July

It’s my last day at work this week, since tomorrow I’m going home and then on Friday my mother and I are off to Liverpool for the weekend. My brother and SIL are going to be visiting my SIL’s parents who live near Liverpool so we’re planning to meet up on Saturday night which will be nice.

But first, lots to get done today, and things will be going on in my absence. At least I got the VAT return done yesterday so that’s one major time-critical thing off the list.

  • STLs
  • review revised spreadsheet
  • payments for N&G
  • quick calculation for homeless team
  • deal with administrator who sent 3 pushy emails just as I was leaving last night (why is everything super-urgent with some people? and why do they think it’s my job to do everything for them?)
  • revise minutes
  • Trust invoices and adjust accruals
  • revise support costs
  • revise depreciation/revaluation now that I finally have a straight answer out of the ambiguous auditor
  • in an ideal world, send revised accounts to auditors but that may be too much to get done today
  • remember bank cards
  • quite fancy a breakfast martini after all that…
  • continue watching OITNB

T’s 27th July

I’m now in worktown leaving in the afternoon for hometown. Immense to-do-list, I’m falling behind. Sometimes it’s the only way with me for less relevant things to not get done. Which is essential for survival. Although it’s a bit too much of an unconscious process.

The pros: had a good night sleep and woke up with a lot of energy, so I’m ready to tackle a complex day.

Today:

  • read student’s thesis
  • Bu report + check receipts
  • Ox: fill reimbursement form
  • email for toner
  • Ct5K
  • library: ppL
  • work on my general plan
  • list what to pack
  • 3pm: office hours
  • plan what to work on during commute back
  • work emails
  • draft CFP abstract

calypte 26th July

Yesterday was the day of All The Scans – 2 CTs, and 2 ultrasounds after they agreed to do next week’s scheduled kidney scan at the same time as my neck one. Which is one less trip to the hospital, hurrah! No idea when the results will be in, or quite what might happen next, but right now I’m just happy to be a few steps closer to being off the medical merry-go-round, fingers crossed o_O

After all that, ended up crashing out for a 2-hour nap, but then made it along to tai chi for the first time in about 6 weeks. Yay! It was pretty good, although I’ve got a new determination to use the video to actually learn the routine, as I’m getting quite frustrated needing to watch others 100% of the time. This is not the kind of class that puts value in ‘teaching’ per se, so it will be up to me.

I’ll add that to my list of ‘dailies’ and things to learn – but trying hard not to feel overwhelmed by any of it as I re-re-re-start the process of trying to get back to some kind of normal. I think overwhelm stress is the major problem right now, to be honest. All the ‘obvious’ medical stuff is getting done, and I’m left with EVERYTHING ELSE. Which is a lot. I need to sneak up on it.

Aiming for a fairly easy one today, then, including getting myself out of the house for a bit.

  • Dailies:
    • meditation
    • stretches/yoga
    • duolingo
    • tai chi – 1 movement
  • head out for a bit
  • review something?
  • fill in doodle poll re Fringe trip

Tomorrow is WN? class 4 (wow, they are galloping past!) where I should get some advice re setting out my rtw plans again; Thursday can be fairly quiet maybe getting some tidying (bookshelves, craft stash, and/or konMari t-shirts) etc done; and Friday is groceries and cinema buddies (delayed Star Trek, yay!). Onwards, one step at a time!
