5/31/16, ftf, wren

I have to keep reminding myself that it’s Tuesday, not Monday.  🙂

It was a pleasant long weekend.  I finished my big spring housecleaning and planted my garden, so the house is about as comfortable and nice as it can be, in preparation for my old friend’s visit.  We even gave the dogs a bath!

I’m wondering if anyone has a sense of whether or not Britain is going to vote to secede from the EU?

SL’s FTF, Tues 31st May

Enjoyed the long weekend – went out for cocktails and fish and chips with Andrew on Saturday and over to Marylebone on Sunday but otherwise have been mostly living in my head thinking about plots and reading yet more books on the subject (the ipad makes it so easy to download things off Amazon…) I’m thinking about doing an Arvon writing retreat maybe in September now, to really get it going.

Back to work today though and there seems to be some sort of massive storm going on outside, you’d think it was February, not nearly June! I think chief isn’t in today and I’m not in tomorrow, so a bossless three day week for me 🙂

  • breakfast
  • French
  • email AM about next week
  • STLs
  • deal with emails over the weekend
  • crack on with stat accounts, in particular more accruals, how to treat debtors, how to deal with awkward subco, review PRO accounts

Happy Birthday, Moosie!

This is the last day before a long holiday weekend for me, too.  Because of roadwork on the highway going into my town and the anticipated flood of holiday travelers, there are predictions of hour-long traffic jams.  I’m going to try to leave work early so I can take the long way home!

SL’s FTF, Fri 27th May

So glad it’s Friday – I was exhausted again after yesterday although the meetings went as well as could be expected, and it was great to see H last night, her joie de vivre is infectious. But the workplace tension issue is taking its toll on me, and I still haven’t quite got to the bottom of it. Oh well, these things come and go, and I must try to stop noticing and just get my head down and get on with my work. At times like this I wish I had my own office!

We have a long weekend coming up as there’s a bank holiday on Monday. Looking forward to three days off, and meeting ACC tomorrow night – we’re going for cocktails at a pop-up bar, and then fish and chips!

  • clear up carnage from Wed
  • STLs
  • continue tweaks to subco budget for Needy & Greedy (it’s not like I have anything better to do after all…)
  • continue year end procedures and spreadsheets – everything balances at the moment, hurrah! but there are a lot of fiddly bits to deal with now, and a whole new template for the accounts
  • quiet night in, catch up on Good Wife

5/26/16 ftf, wren

Well, with luck we’ve had the last bit of workplace drama from the problem employee.  She was busy yesterday, apparently considering whether or not to withdraw her claim under the Americans with Disabilities Act.  When she learned that she could withdraw her claim but would not be allowed to file another claim in the future, she elected not to withdraw and instead walked off the job in a burst of flames just 15 minutes before she was supposed to see a patient.  This led to a flurry of disbelief from other employees, but it’s not hard for me to believe, and I’m just relieved that she is gone!

Now that’s over, I should be able to get back to some Feats of Accomplishment!  My aim for today is to complete five tasks.

SL’s FTF, Thurs 26th May

Up early (by my standards) as have the much-hated 8.30 meeting which I’m going to have to chair as well since the new chairman can’t be bothered coming to meetings. At least he’s agreed we can make them quarterly from now on rather than 6 times a year 🙂

Have another meeting this afternoon for one of the smaller charities which we administer. We’re fond of this charity and spend a lot of time on it but only charge it an admin charge of £500 a year, which is probably about 5% of what it actually costs to run. Nevertheless one of the trustees (who’s a big cheese for another, large charity) likes having a go at us e.g. for not keeping the website up to date, because apparently in addition to being accountants we’re supposed to be excellent writers of scientific information about clinical trials. Hope he doesn’t kick off today.

This evening C and I are meeting H, my old henchgirl, which will be nice. Am very fond of her and wish she was still my henchgirl, quite honestly!

  • coffee
  • meeting 1
  • STLs
  • deal with stroppy professor
  • deal with invoice which I’ve put off for ages
  • deal with pension stuff
  • meeting 2
  • drinks with H

calypte 25th May

After rather crashing out yesterday, find myself in a surprisingly cheerful mood today – I suspect because I’ve mentally granted myself a day ‘off’ (!). Been good to get things done, but think a few extras added themselves at the last minute and stressed me out, and/or I just did my usual of thinking I could do too much too soon. That said, I managed to get a couple of big/lingering things ticked off the list pretty quickly yesterday – letter to the jury people, and booking myself on a freebie makeup course Maggie’s suggested – which felt really great. However, I did have to cancel dinner plans, as was so drowsy and still quite achy. The ache is still to fully back off, but it’s nice not to have to face doing anything with it today.

That said, with a bit of space again I’m making all the plans! I want to make a card just for fun – not my usual, “argh birthday is tomorrow panic panic”, but just to experiment with techniques and have fun with it. I’m lucky to have the time to fit some of that in right now.

I was also reading a new study that confirmed previous ones on the positive effects of exercise on cancer. I mean, I knew this, but it’s a timely reminder. They reckoned the risk of breast cancer could be dropped by as much as 10%, and really – I’ve got to give that a go! Since I’ve been ‘meaning to’ for so long, this is just another kick to sort out my schedule and ensure this is a priority. And accept that I need to start super, *super* slow.
