It feels as if all that I’ve done this week is answer work e-mails, attend meetings and follow-up from assignments made at meetings.  I’m hoping to change that trend today.  I’m also ready for the latest weather trend (snow) to end…

SL’s FTF, Wed 30th March

On holiday again for the next 6 days! I’m looking forward to our trip and exploring a new place, and it will be nice to spend a few days with my family.

  • breakfast
  • clear up carnage
  • walk
  • ironing
  • packing
  • meet family
  • travel to Heathrow, where we’re staying this evening ahead of our early flight tomorrow

Have a good few days everyone!

Yesterday was ridiculously hectic at work, and the entire day was devoted to responding to e-mails, attending meetings, and following up on tasks that were assigned during the meetings.  I hope that today will be quieter.  I have a meeting with my workplace’s current difficult person, so there’s that.  J is seeing a surgeon today about getting the meniscus in his other knee, the one that wasn’t just replaced, repaired.  Interestingly, the surgeon was a former Olympic speed skating multi-gold medal winner.

SL’s FTF, Tues 29th March

Not a great Easter for me – I wasn’t feeling great on Thurs but had to go in early for a meeting, then the new chairman didn’t turn up (apparently he thought it had been cancelled, wtf?) and then my not feeling well became spectacularly worse so I had to come home in a hurry and spent the next two days in bed. Feeling fine now and not entirely sure what caused the blip, whether it was norovirus or food poisoning or something. It meant I had a rather quiet weekend as had to cancel plans in case I was still contagious. I did get some reading done – Presumed Innocent, which someone talked about at last year’s crime conference, but which gave me nightmares, and then Living With a Wild God by Barabara Ehrenreich which was typically spiky but left me feeling ultimately disappointed. And I watched Carol, which I thought was amazing, a really beautiful film, very understated and amazing cinematography.

Raring to get back to work really. Today is an inbetween day at work as tomorrow my mother, brother, SIL and I are going to Bologna for a few days which should be nice. After that, it’s head down for year end.

  • breakfast
  • talk to C about STL issues
  • STLs
  • deal with urgent payment
  • deal with inbox
  • hopefully reschedule meeting etc.
  • leave everything as shipshape as poss
  • dinner with G

calypte 28th March

Hope everyone is enjoying their long bank holiday weekend! As I was saying to wren, today isn’t a Scottish bank hol, and for the first time I can remember I’m with a company that does take the Scottish ones! So, if I wasn’t off work I’d be at work… o_O

Was looking at the calendar, and finding it hard to believe I only got my diagnosis three weeks ago – it’s been a lifetime, and five minutes! I do feel like I’ve been off work for months (trying not to feel guilty) and still a ways to go, I guess. A week and a bit until surgery – gulp! o_O And a pre-op health check up this week, on Wednesday. Might go to the Maggie’s centre while I’m there – don’t feel I ‘need’/required help, but if it’s on offer I suppose I should?

In the meantime, definitely in danger of turning into a slug. I keep telling myself to move more NOW, since I will be recovering and less mobile for the second half of my time off. Generally this makes me want to crawl back under the duvet!

Not all dreadful, though. Been to the cinema (Batman v Superman – hmm, and High-Rise – bonkers, but liked it!), catching up with some TV (finished an old season of Castle and started The Night Manager) and reading a lot (finished Lean In, non-fic about women in work and leadership, and All Their Minds in Tandem, a random NetGalley pick that was disappointing),  and I’ve been writing/posting the reviews.

What else on my to do list? Make soup – need to cut down on the ‘bad’ food, people keep giving me cake and chocolate and I’m rounding up not-so-nicely! – and maybe go experimental with some Chinese dumplings! Plan to try Scrivener asap – been meaning to for ages, see if it helps me organise my writing ideas and make some progress, soon. And all the usual tidying!

Mostly… a weird limbo. On we go, I guess.

3/28/16 ftf, wren

Here I am, apparently the lone ftfer who is preparing for work this morning.  I wonder if the US would embrace the Easter holidays more if people understood that it would mean a four-day weekend?!

I’m starting a new food plan this morning, the Fast Metabolism Diet.  It seems to be steeped in science and is designed to heal all of the organs and systems that make up the metabolism.  My metabolism is very slow, which has been confirmed by a resting metobolic rate test, probably because of thyroid disease and years of dieting.  Anyway, this is a 28-day plan, which alternates between three phases per week and is based on nutrient dense foods, preferably organic.  Following this plan very carefully is my biggest focus of the next 28 days.
