We had a beautiful, sunny weekend, and the warmth made a good dent in melting away the snow.  On Saturday, J and I tried a new Chinese restaurant,  which was not good, and saw the movie Race, which was very good.  I rested a lot and feel like I could rest some more, but work awaits.  Today, I intend to complete the first six items on my list.

Had a nice weekend – we went to see Deadpool on Saturday in the end which was silly but enjoyable. I don’t go to the cinema much these days so it was nice to see something on the big screen for a change. Finished reading the Big Sleep and have now moved on to the Night Manager, which is on TV at the moment so it’s interesting to read the book at the same time.

  • clear up carnage
  • breakfast
  • STLs
  • deal with emails
  • review list – must have had a good weekend as can’t remember much about what I have to do this week
  • correspond further with club manager over budget
  • more checking
  • call Mum
  • Headspace – am hoping it might help my creativity…
  • catch up on Night Manager, TV version

At my parents’, for a few days of rest/recovery for myself and as an excuse to check on them. They are doing well really. Hadn’t been visiting them in quite a while. I was in a very great need of rest and sleep after the marathon before Naples and Venice, and before travelling to Rome next friday for the meeting of the national association of moral philosophers.

Plan for today:

  • rethink my plan of writings and deadlines and talks, make a visual map of them and update it
  • B’sTPaper (which sounds very much as “beast paper”): check word limit, deadline, re-read draft for talk, draft 1 section about what has been assessed till now, as my starting point
  • B/M send emails
  • Chris workshop: jot down (short) list of what’s next, order books for library
  • decide whether I want to participate in the CFP for London August
  • work emails
  • phone colleagues
  • tackle list of admin chores

Leisure:

  • go on reading Penelope Fitzgerald, The bookshop

Today is a welcome very lazy day after quite the week, but mostly full of happies 🙂

Survived the MRI on Friday – might have to phone to figure out when I get the result, as I don’t yet have an appointment. Typical, when I take my finger off the ball (urm, mixed metaphor?), but at least I won’t have to drive miles off as this is the year I arranged to switch to the more local one.

I did end up feeling uselessly groggy back at work, but the guys all know what’s what and were super-nice to me. I’d taken in some angel delight, which was fun – I’m pretty good at the team-bonding stuff 🙂 We also got our annual pay rises, which was fab! I’m still conflicted, though: it was good and I don’t feel ungrateful, but I’m still (quite a lot) behind the next guy (who I tutor in SQL, so hmm) and I know the difficulties in recruiting means newbies are likely to get better deals. I know I will fume if I have to train any more folk earning more/as much as me, so… maybe need to speak out? Hmm. I’ve never really done pay negotiations before. And if I shout too much then it increases the pressure on me to perform. Le sigh. Anyway, freshly invigorated to learn learn learn, either way!

Yesterday morning felt hellish having to drag myself out of bed – alarm, on a Saturday?! – to go attend a writing workshop K booked. She was thoroughly unimpressed – it was prompts and just sit and scribble – but I ended up really enjoying myself. Had to read some stuff out, and got encouraging feedback, and a new-ish idea out of the last exercise. Cos I need *more* ideas – argh! LOL! Another fresh dose of invigoration to figure out the next, post-idea stage better.

Today is my gloriously lazy day, then 🙂 Already stayed in bed through two giant mugs of tea to finish reading Red Rising by Pierce Brown, which I absolutely loved: very Hunger Games meets Ender’s Game, as promised, but was very well done. I fancy a tv-binge of a day now, too 🙂

Woke up to find two foxes sunning themselves in my garden, and then a third wandered in briefly! They look super-chilled out, think they have the right idea!

Hope everyone’s weekends have been equally lovely! 🙂

I accomplished a lot at work yesterday, even with two longish impromptu meetings.  Several people seemed genuinely very happy to see me back – and not because they had something for me to do – so that felt good.  My main goal is for today is to start entering the budget into the online system.

SL’s FTF, Fri 26th Feb

Got a lot done yesterday and am feeling the clouds lifting slightly. I quite enjoy working on the club budget, it all fits together very nicely and I get into a state of flow playing with my spreadsheet!

Planning to go to the cinema tomorrow with my friend L to see either Deadpool or Spotlight – has anyone seen either?

  • breakfast
  • STLs
  • review paper for Board
  • continue and hopefully finish draft budget
  • checking!
  • a quiet night in this evening –  perhaps will do some more Headspace as have been neglecting it lately
  • continue reading the Big Sleep

Happy weekend, everyone!

Things went pretty well at the surgeon’s yesterday.  The x-rays show a little bit of movement in the wrist bones, but generally they are all in the right place.  I was successful in convincing him that a hard cast isn’t necessary, so I just have a new splint and bandages for the next six weeks and then, if all goes well, it will be on to a removable cast.

I had a good talk with my brother last night.  My mom still hadn’t told him about her surgery, so I did.  I think that he’ll get her to the hospital for her surgery and home after, and it seems as if, between my brother and my mom’s nurse friend, she’ll be taken care of.

Finally, I’ll be going back to work today.  There’s quite a lot to do, and my goal is to complete five things from the list.
