calypte 30th October

About to hit my busiest month, and I’m already wanting nothing quite so much as several weeks of sleep! Eeep! Feeling *so* far behind with everything, thanks to this cold, but hey-ho – tons to do so just have to get doing!!

Not helping that I realised yesterday that despite having 3 MLs none of us have been remotely prepared. Tomorrow is the kick-off party, and we (I) only sent out the official email invite last night, and muggins here has been left scrabbling to get some party games together while one of the others swans off tonight to see Bond and the other does her usual i.e. absolutely nothing. Bah. Okay, grumble hopefully out of my system for the rest of the month!!

Forthcoming week’s line up already looks like this:

  • kick-off party – Saturday
  • dinner with Canadians – Saturday
  • Fire Festival! Really looking forward to this 🙂 – Saturday
  • writing 2k words – eeeeek!!! – Sunday
  • lunch w/folks – Sunday
  • Bond – Sunday
  • groceries – Sunday
  • return/collect library books – Monday
  • host Write In – Tuesday
  • Carmen Unwrapped – behind the scenes w/the RSO – Wednesday
  • Costa taster evening – freebies! 🙂 – Wednesday
  • beta reading duties – only half-read, but maybe give at least some feedback before NaNo?
  • NetGalley titles to download (eeep – so much reading!!)
  • birthday and christmas cards to make a start with, asap!
  • boiler insurance to cancel/rebuy
  • tivo box to prevent from imploding
  • many, MANY more words to write!! o_O
  • etc etc

On top of all that, have decided I really want to take up the 20% off gym offer – why not?! Need to remember to build up super-slow, though, and not put myself off before I start. Given the schedule of the rest of the month, even managing once a weekend for the first few weeks will be a challenge, so let’s aim for that.

On NaNo, I have done a little more prep than previous years – but possibly only just enough to tell me that it would have been great to do a LOT more! Actually looking forward to the idea of spending ~6 months doing ‘proper’ prep ahead of next year’s efforts – and why am I thinking about that already?! LOL!

Urm. I think I need a lie down! 😉 Might start this franticness with a nice hot bath and early night tonight.

Happy weekend, all!

Moosie Friday 30 October

Back on track now after a few unexpected developments earlier in the week which I shan’t go into as they’re not really my news to share. Friday again though! Hoping to finish my textbook today which will leave me with 5 1/2 weeks to revise, which is plenty.

I’m looking ahead to November as the last fully functional month of the year (December being taken up with Christmas and parties and our holiday and who knows what gigs will still be happening?!) As I look at things now, while it feels like I haven’t quite been hitting my metrics this year, I’m actually quite close to hitting the lifestyle targets I set out for myself and could maybe make it all come together in November with just 5-10% more effort. Definitely more opportunities than time at the moment and I can’t do everything every day so need to get used to accepting the things that don’t get done without feeling like a failure! I think the two keys are really mental attitude and sleep – there’s a sweet spot between “enough” and “barely functioning” where I can get the most out of my time without being a grumpy shit. And not to forget if I can crack this in November there’s a whole fresh year ahead to build on what I’ve learned this year!

Ftf:
* gym
* email replies
* coffee
* read on train

Work:
* finish textbook (am)!!
* come up with a revision plan that will keep me applied and disciplined and clear on what needs to be achieved each day
* an hour at least on cards from notes
* spreadsheet for A
* bank recs
* Friday development hour! Thinking about job skills, training, possible new jobs etc.
* seeing K for lunch I think

Tonight:
* poss seeing N?
* if not then attack pile of stuff to do at home
* bed no later than 10-for-10:30
I ordered a new Garmin thing yesterday (finally cracked, they had a nice green one on sale on Amazon!) so once that arrives I’ll be able to track sleep and all sorts!!

The frost got my begonias last night, but the rest of the garden seems to be holding up.  I’ve got the snow tires on my car now, too.  Guess I’m as ready for winter weather as I’m going to be.

The boss’s calendar is clear all morning.  Maybe he’ll work from home!

J has now scheduled his knee replacement surgery for December 28, just a few days after Christmas.  We still don’t know if surgery will be needed for his “good knee” and won’t know until he has a MRI next week. It will be wonderful when all the surgeries and recuperation periods are done, as he’ll be able to hike, bike and ski again.

It’s time to put the snow tires on the car, grumble, grumble…I’ll do that after work today.

SL’s FTF, Wed 28th October

Off to France today! I’m going for 4 days, back on Saturday evening. It will take me most of today to get there, then apparently this evening we are dining with a relatively famous Master of Wine bloke so must be on best behaviour 🙂

Tomorrow we have an action-packed day of wine tastings and on Friday we’re having lunch at my favourite restaurant, Le Montrachet in Puligny-Montrachet. Can’t wait!

Have a good rest of the week, everyone 🙂
