I’m feeling pretty good about the progress I’ve made with work projects this week and am hoping for more of the same today.  The afternoon ends with a meeting with the department head, in order to present our year-end numbers. Here’s hoping that goes well.

J’s long-standing knee problems have flared up again, and he’s finally decided that it’s time to have knee replacement surgery.  He’s starting to make plans to have it done in January.  It should be life-changing for him, as he’s been scaling back his level of activity for some time now because of the knee.

My computer keeps telling me to hurry and “reserve” my free copy of Windows 10.  Has anyone tried Windows 10 yet?  I don’t care for Windows 8 at all but am afraid that 10 could be even worse!

SL’s FTF, Fri 28th Aug

Had a nice day off yesterday. The wine arrived fairly early so then I was free to go out and run various other errands and relax a bit. Also got my towering pile of paperwork under control, which feels good!

This morning it’s the audit clearance meeting. I discussed the issues with chief on Wed and now have responses to everything. I don’t like their tone in some places e.g. they refer to one item as a “correction” when the initial figure was an estimate because the actual figure wasn’t known yet, that sort of thing. Their report goes to the trustees so it’s quite unpleasant to have them implying that I’ve cocked something up when I haven’t. Am going to stand up for myself this morning!

Z is back in the office today and we have some catching up to do! Then, hurrah for a 3 day weekend and G is back on Sun 🙂

  • walk
  • breakfast
  • STLs
  • audit clearance meeting
  • mega catch-up with Z
  • clear the dreaded Tray of Checking
  • I&E guidelines
  • make a start on LRT stuff?
  • French
  • finish Lady F

calypte 27th August

::yawn:: Late one last night, as I’d been to see Othello – very good stuff! Considering today’s attempt to function a practice run for Sunday, when I’ll be out of my bed ~4am for a horrendous early flight to London – bleh. Finding a lot of my current thinking/planning is being skewed by that uber-early rise – I’ve cancelled two lots of plans this week already (writing group, cinema) and am debating what I ‘can’ do on Saturday before attempting to get to bed at 8pm!!

Part of it is a stress thing: I’ve got so many things colliding for attention right now that it’s easier to just say no to everything!

  • bank – before Sunday!
  • Debenhams order – before offer ends
  • nb photo id!!
  • ensure have enough little tubs to decant everything for flight/hand luggage restrictions
  • phone re appt for compression sleeves – asap, as want it during hols
  • prescription – collect
  • laundry
  • home insurance – theoretically have the start of next week, but if I can…!
    • cancel current
    • pick/buy new
  • contact lenses
    • cancel OE – not best value any more
    • check health insurance?
    • order from (?) Asda (! via TCB) – get diameter details
  • yogurt order
    • email/phone re discount not working
    • order (to office now?)
  • NaNoWriMo talk
    • review requirement notes
    • notes
  • library books
    • return reserved one by wed
    • renew if poss
    • notes from writing book

nice to do (before Sun):

  • AJJ post – Saturday
  • LFS post
  • paint toes

Soon!

  • car insurance
  • xmas cards – start, argh!

Urm, yeah. Can you see why I’m a little stressed?! 😉

Another day to focus on the metagoal of concurrent equanimity and productivity.  And lots of focused, deep breathing.

It was quite rainy yesterday.  After work, I hiked with the dogs for an hour and a half.  Hiking in the rain is so pleasant.  I love the sound of the raindrops on the ground and in the trees and the way the rain brings out the fresh smells of the earth.   We were drenched and squishy.

Project Runway

T’s 27/8 Thur FTF

Done: got round to writing a heap of emails that I had long been procrastinating on

Our meeting: loved  the “very British café” and now I can see why it has this very British character, LOL!

Today:

Vital

  • book:, digit last longhandwritten section; tackle the pleasure/pain section: go through the source passage, draft the skeleton of my argument, go back and fill in some fleshy references
  • HallePaper: redraft sections 4-5 (deadline 31/8)
  • Lyon Paper: print out and last checks, email SG, (skype?)
  • Mind/Body conference: look for the Brill guidelines
  • email DC, RJ,

nuisances:

  • emails
  • check whether the amazon parcel has arrived
  • prepare for trip to Oxford tomorrow

Keep sane:

  • Ct5K w3/3 DONE! on to w4!
  • go on listening to the audiobook “The enchanted April” (yesterday, when it was pouring all that rain down, I couldn’t help thinking how much it reminded me of the opening scene in the Enchaned April, so that’s why! I never read the book in English and I’ve never listed to an audiobook so it’s all very interesting)
  • leisurely enjoy my banana-chocolate cake

The boss was in a jolly mood yesterday, although he was driving me a bit nuts.  We’re currently working on a grant application, and I’d e-mailed him a budget w/justifications and some questions.  He decided that working through e-mail was not efficient enough, so instead we are now to share our documents in Box and have conversations in some new application called Slack.  Since budget info shouldn’t be widely shared, we have a special folder for just the two of us to collaborate in, which seems silly to me.  For a while, three people, including the boss and me, spent an hour sorting out the proper use of these new applications, when it seemed to me that he could have just opened up his darn e-mail, reviewed the documents and answered my questions in a quarter of the time.  At one point, I was standing next to him in his office while he opened his e-mail, read it, and figured out how to put the information into the new applications before taking action.  I was not very patient or nice, rolling my eyes and quoting Occum’s razor, etc., which he took awfully well.

These are the third and fourth collaboration spaces I’ve been told to use in the past couple of months.  For the record, I am no fan of collaboration spaces.  There are so many of them, too, probably because none of them really works very well.  One of the new ones, Slack, was pulling my FTF gravitar, so there was another half hour figuring out how to change that, as I don’t want to mix my personal internet stuff with work.  Oh well…first world problems, for sure.

Lots to do today, and meta goal remains working on concurrent equanimity and productivity.  Clearly, I’m far from mastering this one!
