Although the boss was gone and the day was meetingless, yesterday was quite busy at work!  People kept handing me tasks through the e-mail and dropping by for impromptu discussions.  I did a lot but made it through only 75% of one task from the Procrastination Zone.  My mind focuses on the things that didn’t get done, rather than the many unplanned accomplishments.  Come on, mind, give me a break!  🙂  I also received a sudden and disappointing e-mail telling me that my order for work anniversary gifts has been cancelled due to some contracting issue.  It’s time to take some deep breaths and just keep digging in!

It’s going to be quite hot here, too.  When I left work yesterday, the thermometer in my car registered 106F/41C, and it’s supposed to be hotter today.  Air conditioning was going kaput in buildings all over campus.  Ours was hanging in there, but there were technicians lurking in the hallways most of the day, doing whatever they do to keep things going.

I strained a muscle in my low back when lifting weights yesterday, so no strength training today.

It was a quiet and hot weekend, with lots of focus on just keeping the house reasonably cool.  July is the month of fireworks here, and people got an early start over the weekend.  We live at the end of a street, and people like to set their fireworks out right outside our house.  It wakes me up, sends my dogs hiding in the bathroom, and generally makes me grumpy.

Am still feeling quite amazed at the recent spate of liberal victories in the US.  The SCOTUS decisions that gay marriage and the Affordable Care Act are both constitutional and the removal of confederate flags on government buildings in South Carolina – these are really big things.  It’s exciting to see big changes happen seemingly in an instant, although they are the result of years and years of small actions.  Part of me feels anxious about backlash, and I’m hoping that does not happen.

Today is the first of nine bossless work days!  This is also the start of a four-day work week that has minimal meetings scheduled.  My plan for the next nine days is to complete at least one item from the Procrastination Zone per work day.  By doing that, I will finally be all caught up by the time the boss returns and I leave for a week’s visit to my mom.

calypte 29th June

Ah, that whooshing noise is June and my week off zooming past! LOL!

I’ve had a nice relaxing holiday, which was the point, but as ever there’s a list of ‘stuff I didn’t do’ – argh! Think I need to re-implement the ‘Accomplishment List’! Yesterday, for instance, big achievement was finally tidying up the spare room to make it usable again – wrong side of the week I had to use it, right enough, but pffft! Let’s face it: most of life happens not on holiday but while we’re busy juggling day jobs, social activities, chores, and hobbies.

Anyway, last day of my hols today, and while I’ve got plenty to do the theme is RELAX! 🙂 Going to take myself to the cinema this afternoon, just cause, and have a book to collect from the library – almost finished the Stephen King one, too, which has been more gripping than expected. Not sure I can finish that before I leave, although another cuppa and the attempt isn’t too dreadful a prospect 😉

Then, it’s meeting K for some writer-chat. That’s one topic that’s not really been getting enough love lately, so hopefully this’ll inspire me – tempted to join the “A Drabble A Day” challenge (drabble = 100 words, ish, learned this yesterday!) on HabitRPG which I am still adoring! 🙂

SL’s FTF, Mon 29th June

Mum and I visited Dad’s grave on Saturday afternoon which was the first time I’d been back. It was very peaceful, sunny and there were bees and butterflies flying around. About as nice a place to be buried as I can think of. Yesterday was quite a contrast as we went shopping in Milton Keynes – I’d thought we were going to Ikea but Mum wanted to visit the main shopping centre so we spent a couple of hours doing that and having lunch before I had to get my train.

Our new girl starts today. C is away this week so I’ll be surrounded by Aussies. At least they should enjoy the hot weather we’ve been promised this week! Personally I’m glad for the air-conditioning in the office 🙂

  • breakfast
  • sort out necessary stuff for new girl
  • deal with new girl
  • STLs
  • deal with auditors
  • make a start on paper (time for it to come out of the Procrastination Zone)
  • whatever else crops up
  • leave around 5.00, ideally
  • need to go to Heals
  • clear up carnage
  • not sure if G is turning up this evening or not

At least I was able to clear up a couple of items that have been lingering in the procrastination zone, and I finally jumped into a new computer process that I’ve been avoiding and find that I can navigate it after all.  This is the last day that the boss will be around before he leaves for two weeks.  There are also two meetings on my calendar, so I may not make too much headway on the list.  I hope to get complete at least five items on the list today.

SL’s FTF, Friday 26th June

Friday at last. It’s been an ok week and the auditors haven’t hassled me too much. Another quiet day today as Z is elsewhere, and I need to start getting on top of an issue I have massively procrastinated on and am now anxious about as a result. Now that I could seriously be leaving in 3 years’ time, I want to leave everything shipshape for my successor 🙂

I’m going home tomorrow to see my mother, and we’re going to visit Dad’s grave. I haven’t been since we buried him but she’s been a handful of times and my brother’s been with her on a couple of those occasions. I don’t want to get into some sort of competitive grave-visiting contest but it will be good to do it and get it done.

  • walk
  • breakfast
  • STLs
  • finish small co accounts
  • check bank recs
  • brain dump regarding this club issue
  • French
  • clear up carnage
  • quiet night in being quiet
