Weekend shift reporting for duty 😉

Hoping to have reached a turning point in my recent slump. Yesterday was my annual MRI, and although I’ve done it a dozen times, and it’s fine – everything’s fine – I figure I’m subconsciously more stressed than I realised, and yup: boy do I get tense sitting in that waiting room in a paper gown! (and it was fine. I feel a little queasy and light headed afterwards, but I went back to work and it was fine!). This year was actually worse than normal for that stressy sense, and I’m wondering if it’s because my sort-of-step-sister has just been diagnosed with breast cancer. Urgh. She should also be fine, but they’ve already had worse results from the scan than expected, so the ‘full Angelina’ treatment is in the offing. It’s horrible, and it’s horrible of me but I’m really not looking forward to spending time with her next week. Aaaahhhh… results (mine) on Wednesday, and then normal service can resume. Right!?

In the meantime – WEEKEND! 🙂 Had such an ace one last week, but much rushing around. This weekend I have zero plans (and a busy week lined up after!) so am reveling in the jammies, reading and tv mindset 🙂 That said, few things I should be remembering:

  • birthday card for next w/e – failed to even start last one, must get over the ‘fear’!
  • choose/order present – eeep!
  • pay cc
  • set up new dd
  • blog – I want to be taking this more ‘seriously’, for varying reasons. So, recipe and 52C ‘update’ and review, review, review!! And talk about making cards (previous) – future planning!
  • write some

Week ahead:

  • Monday
  • Tuesday – head to my dad’s after work
  • Wednesday – consultant appt. / Love’s Labours Won
  • Thursday – company meeting in Glasgow, followed by food and quiz
  • Friday

Yesterday, it snowed steadily all day where I work, but there was very little snow where we live, so all was good for hiking, which is very important, of course!  It continued to be quite busy, though not unpleasantly so, at work, and I was surprised at how much I accomplished.  The chocolate covered almonds are all gone, so I can start fresh with healthy eating today.  The big news is that I had a Frank Discussion with my boss about my salary situation.  It went quite well.  The time was right, so I seized the moment and was able to state clearly just what I wanted.  His response was good.  He says he is all for me getting a salary increase, and he set a meeting straight away with the department director.  He will have to do battle with her in order to get it.  It’s crazy that she is standing in the way, as me getting a raise or not has zero impact on department funds, but there you go.  He meets with her on Tuesday, and obviously I am hoping he will prevail.

J has nothing scheduled at work for the next week or so.  If it wasn’t so busy at my job, I’d take some time off to hang out with him.  Anyway, there’s a grant submission due today and an afternoon meeting with some department guy who wants to go over something I’ve already been over carefully because he thinks he can find something I couldn’t find which is unlikely…so my big goals for the day are 1) focus on deep breathing, 2) recommit to clean and healthy eating, 3) submit grant, 4) get through meeting quickly.  Anything else is gravy.

Moosie Friday 27 February

Last night’s gig was great – a lot of fun, a lot of accordions (!), apparently they’re going to ask a bunch of us back to do longer sets, and I sold another CD!  I could have kissed the guy when he tapped me on the shoulder to ask, as that means I’ve met my (admittedly minimal!) sales target for the month. Hopefully this is something I can build on with more gigs but yet again I’m reminded to get out there, learn and enjoy myself as much as possible and the rest of it will sort itself out. I made it to 8 gigs for February as well and have most of March mapped out.

Really really tired though – it’s going to be a long day but it’s worth it – and I have the whole weekend free to sleep and practise songs!

Every day this week has been a busy one at work, and today will probably be no exception.  It’s mainly a good busyness, although I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with my e-mail backlog yesterday.  Right in the midst of it, I got a notice that my e-mail was completely full and so had to stop everything and spend 30 minutes archiving.   Someone brought a big jar of chocolate covered almonds in to work yesterday.  When things like this happen, my sugar addiction becomes very clear.  A part of my mind won’t stop thinking about the chocolate, and once I give in and eat some, it seems nearly impossible to stop.  I hate that some minimally tasty poison has that much power in my life.

Winter is making a comeback starting today, with snow and cold temps in the forecast for the coming week.  It’s still very little snow for us, so it should be manageable and will not (I hope) impede hiking.  My meta-goals for the work day are 1) step back, take slow, deep breaths, and consider what I really need in the face of chocolates and 2) complete four small but important tasks which should take about 90 minutes and then move on to the next phase of budgeting.  It’s possible that the person we’re meeting with this morning will be requesting a raise, and if that happens, it will create the perfect opportunity to also bring up the subject of my own salary.

SL’s FTF, Thurs 26th Feb

I had a random day off yesterday but wasn’t feeling great (if I hadn’t already booked it as a day off, I’d probably have taken sick leave) so not ideal. Am going into work today and then I have tomorrow off too which will be nice. Just 8 hours at the office to get through first.

  • breakfast
  • ironing
  • work – mostly getting bank rec programme set up on P’s computer
  • whatever else crops up
  • get cheese for tomorrow
  • early night

Moosie Thursday 26 February

Yesterday I got an unexpected notification on FB on a community board for one of the local folk & blues clubs I play at, that a bunch of them are heading out to play at a neighbouring club tonight. It’s one I’ve been looking to get to but only accessible by car, but I have managed to get a lift from two of my favourite people! So a bit of an unexpected surprise and a further gig for February (it’s not over yet!) My therapist made the observation that music things are now where I tend to get my needs met these days in terms of comfort, community, affirmation, etc. so now when these things happen I am aware of how my emotions are affected positively.

Today will be another unique challenge to see if I can get this new food plan to work for me. I’m quite tired and it’s going to be a long day!

Ftf:
* stretches
* writing
* swim
* coffeeeeee
* breakfast

Work:
* nothing specific today, but get ahead on month- and year-end
* study
* lunch with S + form

Tonight:
* leave at 5
* home by 6:30
* plan something economical to eat
* hopefully don’t need to shower and do a bit of practice instead
* out again at 7:15
* back by midnight??!
