Moosie new year’s eve!

Happy new year’s eve everyone! Hope you all have a great time tonight and feel ready to make peace with this year and make a fresh start on whatever your goals are for 2015.

So much of this year was unexpected, both in what I’ve achieved and what I haven’t. There’s a load of things I’ve been able to do for the first time ever/in ages where the problem has always been down to anxiety: I’ve spent waaaaay more time with other people than ever before, I’ve met so many people, I’ve performed and even enjoyed it, I’ve recorded, and I’ve taken a trip with someone other than B. There have been so many highlights.

Yesterday we had a mammoth therapy session and then I walked the whole south bank on my own after dark. I am surprised, between therapy and spending so much time face to face with people, that I’m still not very good at sharing my personal struggles with others, although at least I do that in therapy and maybe learning how much I can cope with on my own is the lesson I needed. I have been learning how to be me more, whether I’m with people or on my own. I haven’t lost any weight either, and the unexpected thing about that is I have been so busy just being me that I actually do forget most of the time(!) that I have this major health issue. I know I need to tackle this as a task next year although the battle lines will be drawn differently – I would love the benefits of being a normal weight as much as the next person but I doubt it’s going to give my life the meaning I always thought it would – or change it as much as finding this level of self-acceptance has this year. I would love for next year to be a complete year of health and wellness, physically,  mentally and emotionally, rule out my toxic tendencies and eliminate harmful influences so I can reach my potential. Starting with waking up tomorrow without this cold would be great!

Tasks for today:

* I’m out having coffee and doing some writing and am probably heading towards the park for a walk (and then maybe more writing and more coffee ;)) for starters
* I want to clear up the flat a bit – most of it is fairly OK but the studio is a tip – this is what it looked like a couple of days ago though it’s slightly better now:

I have a heap of archiving stuff (letters, journals and mementoes) from my parents’ place and from this year to make permanent homes for, and then I want to get the room set up as a creative space conducive to next year’s goals.
* finish up scrapbook for this week and the year
* any set up for goals?
* reply to R
* do something towards CD launch – I need to have notes ready for editing session by Sunday, artwork ready to go to the printers once the track order is settled, and a new website to set up, and gig research, so pick something!
* song practice, and loads of it! Would be great to do a final pick of the songs I want to master and then make some progress with them
* there may well be a nap in there somewhere!

B is working and I was thinking about finding somewhere to go and party tonight but I think probably singing in the new year on my own might be more appropriate given all that!
Sorry epic post! Have a great new year’s eve!

The bitter cold, ice and high winds made yesterday’s drive in to work seem post-apocalyptic.  I kept coming up on flashing red lights in the darkness where another car was off the road or a tree or fence had been blown down.  It was so cold after work that I aborted the evening dog walk after only a few minutes, as Elbee’s feet were obviously freezing.  This morning will be even colder (-28C) and I’m debating whether or not to even try taking them out for a walk.

This is the last of the quiet work days.  I haven’t accomplished as much as I’d like, but perhaps I can power through a few more items on the list today, and perhaps I can take off from work a little early.  After that, it’s on to a lovely four-day holiday!

New Year’s Eve at last! I won’t be sad to see the back of this year.

More pottering around for me today and am going to nip into the office in a little while to see if C is there and keep her company for a bit. Next week is going to be manic so if I can get a little bit done ahead of time that would be good.

I also need to get an extension cable and a mouse, since the cable on the laptop is ridiculously short, and the trackpad is terrible – I can’t figure out how to hold it down to select cells in Excel etc. It claims to be some super-whizzy dual action trackpad but as with Windows 8, they have got way too far ahead of themselves in my opinion!

This evening, my friend Andrew (the wine merchant) is joining me and G for a nice meal involving some great wine, so that should be fun. Haven’t seen him for a while so will be nice to catch up, and I have a massive piece of roast beef to cook 🙂 Not sure if we will stay up for the fireworks, usually we’re tired by then.

Happy New Year’s Eve, everyone!

The snow has stopped, but it’s super windy & cold (-21 C) and apparently the roads aren’t yet cleared.  Guess I will have to leave early for work again.  I will be getting good use out of the seat heater that J gave me for Christmas!

SL’s FTF, Tues 30th December

New laptop! It’s a relief to be able to type again properly. I wasn’t too impressed with PC World though. Nonstop upselling, quite irritating. Next time I shall definitely go somewhere else! Spent most of yesterday setting it up, swearing at the trackpad which took some getting used to, transferring my files over and figuring out what the hell Windows 8 is all about. Argh!

Today my plan is to take some books to the Oxfam shop, do food shopping, and then have some thinky time about other things. I also need to make a start on the book group book which seems quite chunky, it’s a Rosemary Sutcliff about King Arthur (“Sword at Sunset”) – at least it gets very good reviews on Amazon.

Have a lovely day, everyone!

Back to the work life, at least for the next three days.  It should be a quiet and productive work life, as the majority of people in my office and otherwise are still on vacation.  We’re in the midst of a winter storm and a real cold snap, so driving could be dicey, but so far it doesn’t look risky enough to stay home.  That’s a little disappointing, but then again it will be good to get my work list whittled down before the new year, and a four-day weekend is on the horizon.

Moosie Monday 29 December

Morning! Hope everyone had a decent Christmas! Two doses of my lot in three days was a bit much to be honest and I had a day yesterday just to get over (another!) cold and remember that the real world is much nicer than the one my family shut themselves into. Feeling mostly recovered now and mostly relieved that it’s over but it’s not quite the gung-ho start to magic week that I anticipated, rather just creeping from day to day and taking things as they come.

Today we have a full day at the studio to mix the songs for the album. It’s the bulk of the remaining work and will be a busy day but I don’t have to perform so the pressure is off in that sense, and I’ll be glad to get some traction on this dream-train after the Christmas break! Will be nice as well to have a whole day with G talking about music things and just exciting and cool in general.

My uncle (quite probably influenced by my cousin) got me this enormous fluffy snood for Christmas – I have been living in it and it’s perfect for frosty days like today! Hope everyone else got some delights in their stockings!
