Yesterday’s biggest thrill was securing tickets to see Stevie Wonder in Las Vegas, where he will be performing his album Songs in the Key of Life.  This is happening on Thanksgiving weekend (last weekend in November), and one of J’s childhood friends will meeting us there.   I felt very fortunate to get good tickets without having to pay too much.  We’re also planning a visit to my mom combined with a visit to Southern California in the early part of November, so November is going to be a fun and exciting month.

The boss didn’t come in to work yesterday until after I had left for a long training on the new government regulations for grants.  Today he will be back for real, which is just as well because there is much to discuss.  It looks as if it will be a busy day.

Moosie Tuesday 30 September

Had a pretty lovely weekend all in all; some nice walks in the park and shopping with B (including a particularly good Sunday morning which involved coffee under the autumn  trees (B has decided he drinks coffee now! It was a gamble but I knew he’d see sense in the end ;)) and then a brilliant time at folk & blues group on Sunday night and some sweet compliments. Last week was a bit of a mess but I feel great about things again now.

Woke up naturally at 4:45 and did an early bike workout which meant I could get into London before the 7am peak – got a bit of time to sit in Starbucks and  read before going to work. It’s great she  things work out that way without having to force myself to get up. My boss is away today which is probably helping with my mood and enthusiasm!
Last quarter starts tomorrow!

Ftf:
* workout
* breakfast
* article
* do some other people’s corrections on lang-8
* buy lunch stuff

Work: no boss hurrah!
* a may be back – my day kind of depends on whether she is or not. She has three weeks’ worth of work to catch up on for month-end this week – if she’s back I won’t have to do all of it! If not I’ll be running expenses and invoices all day
* p1 ch11
* p3 ch2 (oh so behind)
* coffee for the fwp
* other bits and pieces

Tonight:
* therapy? I think. It’s been a while!
* pick up Economist
* home, spend some time with B
* possibly reading, song edit if time/opportunity

It poured rain almost the entire weekend.   Fortunately, I was able to find windows of time when it wasn’t raining so hard and get Becca & Elbee out for some muddy hiking, but it wasn’t as much as we were used to, that’s for sure.  It felt like baking weather, so I made a fresh peach crumble yesterday, and it turned out pretty well.  I also made more progress on reclaiming our library.  The only things left to do now involve moving some big things out, and that will require J’s help.

It’s back to work today, ready or not, and the two weeks of bosslessness, which weren’t as glorious as I’d been hoping, are now over.  It’s just as well, as I have a long list of things to discuss with the boss.

On Friday, I helped interview a woman with a personality that really rubbed me the wrong way.  One of our faculty has his heart set on hiring her, so it’s almost certainly going to happen.  I’ll have to keep an open mind and find a way to get along with her, but right now I have a strong feeling of trepidation.

Stevie Wonder will be performing his album Songs in the Key of Life in Las Vegas this November, and we are hoping to attend.  Tickets go on sale today, so my number one priority is to see about getting some.

Friday!  I’m ending this week feeling much better than I did last week.  Today I will finally have to pay attention to the Highly Frustrating Task, and I’m hoping to maintain my equilibrium while doing so.  I would celebrate Friday by wearing jeans to work, but I have to conduct a couple of interviews.  What was I thinking scheduling them on a Friday?

While searching job opportunities yesterday, I came across something that would be a great opportunity for J.  I printed it out and showed it to him, and he agreed.   I’m keeping my fingers crossed for him.  It would be wonderful if he could get out of the work situation that he’s in right now.

SL’s FTF, Friday 26th Sept

Up bright and early again today (maybe this is how I should do it, alternating days?) since it’s only a half day this morning – and this afternoon is going to be fun!

  • breakfast
  • ironing
  • French
  • work – read Z’s minutes
  • anything else I can do to get a head start on accounts
  • try to be nice to new fundraiser who irritated me yesterday – but think what I interpreted as self-importance was perhaps just cluelessness
  • leave at 12.30!
  • head over to the city for, as Moose puts it, “decadent sushi” 😀
  • celebrate Cate’s birthday! hurrah!
  • see G this evening
