Moose’s 2Q plans – Monday 31 March

I’ve had a bit of thinky-time this weekend which has been welcome – life has seemed so hectic (in a good way!) and it feels like I’ve reached a bit of a turning point, which all very neatly fits with the end of the quarter! I did a bit of a wrap-up on my blog here – basically I think I picked the right things to focus on and life has improved massively even though it hasn’t always felt like it!

For 2Q I guess I want to keep the basis going (social + music + health) and it’s time to focus on a new set of challenges:

Health – I’ve lost a tiny bit of weight but more importantly I’ve set up some really good routines. I can get to my lowest weight yet in 2Q if I focus on this and I’m *dying* to get back into some of my smaller clothes for the summer. Mostly the trick here is in sticking to the routines, doing the preparation, and then letting myself get caught up in the other things of life and forgetting about it.

Socialising – I *never* would have thought I’d be so happy spending so much time with so many different people! I don’t even know where that time has come from. I feel absolutely blessed having the friends I do, we have so much fun, do lovely things and have wonderful conversations. My last two social events of the quarter were the open mic (chilling with other songwriters, talking about music and inspiration – brilliant!) and a work night out of drinks followed by a random dinner where I only really knew 2 of the other 7 people there and yet we all had a great time – I think that shows where the new boundaries are. There are several people I’m looking forward to hanging out with and getting to know better, I want to make sure to work around the schedules of and really be there for the most important friends, I want to get better in group situations and being able to talk to multiple people at once, I want to do a greater variety of activities with other people, and I want to make more musical friends. I want to keep on taking all the opportunities available to be with people who are important to me and I really miss it when I’m stuck home alone.

Music – This is the big deal now. The thought that I can go off with my guitar and play my songs anywhere on any given night of the week is just awesome. The place I played at last week runs every Thursday, with a second night at a different location every Sunday, for instance. I don’t really know how to play this – it could potentially change the balance of life quite drastically if I let it take over, but the happiness I felt while playing and afterwards knowing I didn’t have to feel scared about it – that was such an amazing feeling and (like socialising, I guess) I don’t want to be away from it for too long. I would like to aim for these targets during the course of the quarter:

  • I want to get to the point where I feel as comfortable playing in public as I do playing on my own
  • I want to be able to talk (as well as sing) when faced with a mic – and feel like myself doing so
  • I want to get all my own songs up to standard – performing is not far from recording. I know from preparing for last week what kind of work it takes to get each song ready so try to keep going with 2-3 songs a week
  • play at least 10 times (most weeks would be great)
  • play two different places in a week
  • play somewhere locally
  • work out some covers and get them up to standard too
  • sing/play with other people – duets and collaborations
  • a session of piano songs would be good
  • keep up with¬†the social media stuff
  • By the end of the quarter: if all of this comes together I’ll be ready to approach places for gigs of my own (start a list!)
  • Research getting the album recorded

That’s enough! It’s pretty straightforward – there is only enough time to do the next set of tasks each day and move forward with the priorities, but all of it is lovely lovely stuff ūüôā

Friday really was a strange and unpleasant day, when it seemed as if just one thing after another went wrong.¬† Several things remain to be dealt with today.¬† I’m not looking forward to facing my newly-updated computer again.¬† When the update to Windows 7 was done, all of my MS Office softwares were also updated, so it’s a lot of change to get used to.¬† My e-mail archives have disappeared, I keep finding things that have to be re-set or uploaded, and my speakers no longer work.¬† We’re also in the midst of a winter storm, so who knows what the commute will be like.¬† My plan is just to leave early for work, keep my head down, and relax as much as possible.¬† Well, at least there are no meetings today!

SL’s FTF, Mon 31st March

Last day of the quarter, and not a moment too soon as far as I’m concerned!

The clock changed yesterday and somehow G ended up not leaving until 11.15 last night so am not a Monday Morning Gym Hero today but I’ll get back to it later in the week.

Spoke to my parents yesterday and they seem ok – Dad has been eating more and Mum rattled off a list of all the things he’s eaten which seemed very encouraging. The Macmillan cancer nurse is supposed to be coming round today which could be quite a big deal as she’s attached to the local hospice so is a connection to that which may be needed in due course. Other plans for redecoration, a new shed, the extension, are all in train which is good as gives them other things to think about. There have also been a lot of cats about and my mother sent me a photo of a wonderful ginger cat sitting on the fence.

The other excitement is that G has suggested a weekend in Paris in early July! Admittedly only because he has to go to a wedding, but still, I don’t mind some time by myself while he does that, if it means we get to go to nice shops / restaurants. I don’t know Paris very well – we sometimes have a meal there as we’re passing through on our way to Burgundy, but that’s about it – but G knows it much better¬†as he goes with his father quite often.

Chief is back today and I have to deliver some bad news – another invoice has appeared relating to the over-spent project. I had nothing to do with managing the finances for this project, and I really hope we’re not going to get into the blame game again. There is no way this one’s my fault!

  • breakfast of champions
  • make delicious packed lunch – today is chicken, avocado, lettuce and salsa, then strawberries
  • bite the bullet and tell chief about the invoice
  • Windows 7 update continues
  • Needy and Greedy wants us to clear down the bank account
  • deal with all the other things on my list (bearing in mind from Wed it will be quieter as Z is away)
  • revise income and expenditure guidelines for fundholders
  • leave at 6.00
  • clear up carnage from last night
  • email R
  • catch up on Mammon (Norwegian thing) – I hear it got good reviews
  • early night

Yesterday was a lovely day.¬† I got some things done at work, had some pleasant conversations, enjoyed a nice and productive work lunch, got a good report from the asthma doc, and enjoyed a wonderful hike in the midst of a pretty snow storm.¬† The question when I arrive at work today is whether or not I’ll be able to use my newly-upgraded computer.¬† I may have to wait for some IT wonk to do last minute tweaks.¬† Well, I have already identified a Plan B computer if that’s the case.¬†

SL’s FTF. Friday 28th March

Had a nice day yesterday and a good gossipy lunch – it was just me and the audit manager who I used to work with back in the day, so we¬†were able to have a nice, in-depth conversation¬†rather than small-talk. It has been weird working with her as a client, as she has been incredibly professional throughout, whereas I can’t forget¬†the time she was incredibly drunk one evening, having dramatic (lack of) love life problems, and fell off a stool in the pub we were all in ūüôā

Then G, who is having a week off this week, had been to the ‘Fridges so we had some lovely halibut for our tea!

Decided to have a day off on the exercise front today but will get back to it tomorrow. I did 15.5k steps yesterday and am up to 54k for the week so far, so should crash through the 70k barrier at the weekend.

  • breakfast of champions
  • book dentist – have been putting this off due to things being up in the air with Dad, but things are no longer quite so up in the air so no excuse
  • funnily enough, we’re having a Windows 7 update today, for some of us at least – what a bore!
  • post accruals
  • write up notes from property meeting
  • urgent payments for sub co (Needy & Greedy = everything always urgent!)
  • review points discussed with auditor – in particular ancient disputed invoices with UCL going back into mists of time… the Saga of the Disputed Invoices
  • minutes from club committee meeting
  • probably have half hour lunch break and bunk off at 5.30, as Z not in today
  • collect parcel
  • recycling
  • food shopping
  • clear up carnage (unless G does it, she says hopefully)
  • dinner with G

Moosie Friday 28 March

OMG guys I did it and it was amazing!!!!!! I was a bit nervous and didn’t say much but got through my two songs and did myself justice and it worked! People listened and it felt amazing! Got some lovely comments afterwards and met some really cool other musicians and it was just a brilliant fun night – so easy to connect with other people when you have that in common. I cannot get over how I was so scared about it for so long, it won’t ever be like that again now and to no longer feel afraid of doing something I absolutely love is just…. Life is always going to be good as long as I have that. It was such an awesome life-changing night.

Today is a completely different bag, back to the day job, slog through as much work as possible, and a big work party tonight.

Ftf:
* get up, wander round the house in disbelief and happiness (only got to bed at 1!)
* swim
* breakfast

Work:
* year end year end year end. I am the invoice cowgirl.
* VAT
* budget links
* just sort crap out.
* have lunch with someone!
* can work late a bit.

Tonight:
* big work party thing, can hang out and stay late. Try to remember not to drink though.

Today will be a different kind of day.¬† Our office is going through a bit of a computer crisis, with about half our computers needing memory upgrades so they can be switched from Windows XP to Windows 7.¬† I don’t understand where Microsoft is coming from with their discontinuation of support for XP.¬† It seems rather evil…¬† Anyway, I’ll be without a computer for the entire afternoon, so I’m going to have a lunch meeting with a potential new employee, then a doctor appointment, and then home.¬† It’s also supposed to snow today.
