The glorious days of Spring in February are over, and it’s back to cold, snow & rain.  It poured rain yesterday afternoon, which led to the waiting room at my asthma doctor’s office being vacant except for me.  That was a nice change of pace.  It’s usually packed with noisy, wriggling children.

It’s been a quiet week at work, which is fine with me.  I’m hoping to continue making progress on my annual budget.

I’m currently listening to an audio book by Ram Dass called Conscious Aging.  He’s a wonderful speaker and makes some very interesting points.  He points out that in some eastern cultures, people spend a lifetime preparing for old age and death, whereas people in the west spend most of their years in denial about old age and death, so that when they come, we are completely unprepared.

SL’s FTF, Fri 28th Feb

Another morning, another gym session. This morning I woke up at 6.45 without the alarm clock or the neighbours making a racket next door so that’s quite promising! Feels very good to get this one achievement out of the way and now I can relax 🙂

The biscuits I made last night turned out ok but fewer than last time – bizarre since I used the same quantities of everything. Perhaps they are ever so slightly bigger, but I don’t think so. We’ll see what the verdict is at work. I’m wondering about putting white or dark chocolate chunks in them next time (or both!), but they might get burned. Further experimentation needed. Am keeping a couple back for G to try this evening.

Today Z and I are going to Honey & Co for lunch – this is our second attempt since when we went before Christmas they had mysteriously deleted my reservation even though I had confirmed it! Z told them to sack the person who had done it 😉 Hopefully they will not lose the reservation this time as am looking forward to going – the people who run it are ex-Ottolenghi so it’s Middle Eastern food. Nom nom nom.

  • gym
  • breakfast of champions, or not as the case may be 🙂
  • take dry cleaning in, yawn
  • check club accounts
  • revise draft budget
  • lunch out with Z yay!
  • whatever I feel like doing after that, really

Moosie Friday 28 February

Friday!!! And also the end of Feb. That’s 1/6 of the year – it’s been fun so far but I think it may be time for an attitude (re)adjustment if I’m going to push on to the next phase. I don’t know if I’ve lost focus a bit on what’s important but I’m struggling to translate all the good stuff I’ve been doing into the kind of inner joy I’d like to be feeling – still much too negative on the inside and still lacking those really deep personal connections.

I have more work to do today than I could possibly hope to complete in a month! I’m going to have to get used to walking away from unfinished tasks each evening and not giving them a second thought during my real-life time!

Ftf:
* writing, routines – woke up 15mins before the alarm
* swim
* yogurt

Work: who knows really?!!
* I need to figure out the download postings today!
* all the final config for project x – wipe test data and check user accounts as far as possible
* documentation needs to be done if at all possible (Omg)
* call with account manager
* lunch? Chance would be a fine thing
* team meeting (serves the sole purpose of making my boss feel like he’s In Charge, the rest of us know very well what we’re doing and could put the hour to better use elsewhere!)
* year-end vendors
* final email for project x launch – then it’s all live and they can use it and it’ll work or it won’t!!
* oh and HELLO bank recs. Sure I can find a couple of hours for that.
Tonight I’ve been invited to e’s for dinner – she’s my new Fave person at work and I’ve been looking forward to this for ages!!

…and that’s the month wrapped up!

I’m quite pleased that I met my work goals yesterday and managed to do even a bit more.  So far, my annual budget season has gone very smoothly, which is unusual.  I’m already over half done.  Today is another shortish day, and I’ll mostly have just the morning for accomplishing things.  There’s a noon meeting, and I’m leaving just after 1:00 p.m. for a visit to my asthma doctor.  It’s supposed to rain all day, which doesn’t bode well for after-work hiking.  Poor J has to work late tonight, so I’ll have the evening to myself.

Project Runway

SL’s FTF, Thurs 27th Feb

Had a good time at the wine dinner last night and saw a couple of people I know a bit, and also chatted to the winemaker herself. Got back late and somewhat drunk so am pleased I managed to get up this morning and go to the gym, although I took it fairly easy 🙂

  • gym
  • breakfast of champions, or not, as the case may be
  • get my head round work
  • nice ex-auditor is coming in to do something
  • send off VAT letter to HMRC – what joy to be arguing with HMRC again…
  • talk to C about something, not sure what’s up
  • club minutes
  • club budget
  • leave at 6.00
  • food shopping
  • clear up carnage
  • make biscuits for work
  • Good Wife – last week’s ep was amazing, so whereas I’d been thinking this series was a bit crap, now I’m very much looking forward to tonight’s ep…
  • continue reading Big Brother

Moosie Thursday 27 February

Thursday. Pffff. I worked so hard yesterday, straight through with a quick break for coffee, my eyes were aching by the end of it. Fortunately my two hour meeting today has been moved to next week and I’ve caught up on my month-end stuff so today is a free gift of a day and my last chance to get stuff sorted. Use it well.

My scrapbooks are up to date! Tonight I’m going to attempt the peanut cookie recipe as my something creative 😉

Ftf:
* writing, routines
* swim
* shopping – go via big tesco and get baking stuff too

Work:
* rest of internationals
* 11am brief training – need to prep this
* documentation for project X – manuals, procedures, and emails drafted. Think of it as a package and aim to complete this today as a priority
* year-end: vendor list. Can work on small chunks of this but it’s not as much of a priority yet
* month-end: bank recs if stuff is going to clear today. This can be done tomorrow as long as I don’t leave too much other stuff over.
* lunch/coffee with K or W, see who gets in there first
* mail my aunt!
* case for S

Tonight:
* cookie baking 🙂
* dinner creation
* music
* early night

That’s it! I think everything else is up to date!

Miss E Wednesday 26th February

Hello all, how’s tricks?

Following on from my trauma of last week I’d been healing well and feeling fine. Went to the nurse on Monday who was fine with my dressings and the fact they hadn’t been changed and when it was redressed some areas were left open, which is great. Then yesterday morning I noticed there was some fresh blood on the sheets which was hugely puzzling, I actually thought I’d stabbed my toe or something while I was cutting my nails. Then I looked at my tummy… The lower portion of the wound had opened and was bleeding. It wasn’t pretty and I felt really quite shaken and ANNOYED! I heal really well, the fact it has popped open makes me feel like a failure!

Anyway, I went back to the nurse and the doctor had a look and they basically patched it up (I thought it might need a couple of stitches – before you gross out fully it wasn’t open right down to my insides, just apart slightly) and it’s already started to heal well (I’m like Homer Simpson when he hurts his knee and the wound grows over Ralph Wiggum’s hand!) but it does mean that this week I have no choice but to make the trek to Finchley every day until I can get back to my GP on Monday. I’m reasonably chilled out about it this time as I have an open wound and I can get why it needs seeing, last week I just found it all very tedious and pointless, but I’m still extremely angry about the principle of not even being able to get non-GP care in my own borough, so I agreed with the nurse that I’ll write to the doctor at the surgery who is on the committee, so he’ll have more ammunition for funding 🙂

So a few tasks for today:

  • Write letter to GP – back there on Monday so this might be left for another day, I’ll see how I feel
  • Write another letter…
  • Watch Great British Sewing Bee – due to lack of Hollywood, I think I may prefer this to Bake Off, although CAKE
  • Watch the William Onyeabor documentary
  • Lunch
  • Look at spa days? Due to my dressings I can’t shower, I can’t really get to my hairdresser and I can’t do any proper “body maintenance” so I’ve already been looking at beauty treatments to indulge in when I’m healed but I’m thinking maybe just go the whole hog and have a spa day.
  • Help D unpack shopping
  • Make dinner
  • Watch The Fantastical World of Hormones with Dr John Wass on BBCFour. I really do find hormones fascinating so I’m glad I stumbled on this
