Back at it after being out of commission with a cold for the past few days.  Thank goodness, the snow is gone and the sun is back.  There are just two bossy days this week, and then a glorious eight days of bosslessness begins.  Hurrah!!!  I am going to be away from the office most of the second half of October, so I plan to use the glorious eight days to get fully caught up.

Miss E Friday 27th September

Morning all, long time no blog!

It’s D’s birthday today so I’m having a day off…but he’s gone to work, haha! I’m up bright and early though as I have a few bits and bobs to do and deliveries I’m expecting:

1. Have breakfast…!

2. Address final eBay sale (only took 1.5 weeks for the payment to be made)

3. Upload compilations to iTunes & add to phone

4. Sort out ones whose artist listing I’ve buggered up

5. CAKE – D has requested a coffee cake

6. Wait for flashy new TV to be delivered (it’s not that flashy but it is a sensible size, is HD and has all the catch up channels built in, plus I think you can access Netflix which is exciting for the final BB on Monday!)

7. Set up flashy new TV…

8. Wait for New Look and ASOS parcels (ASOS due between half 3 and half 4)

9. Continue reading We Need New Names. I’ve read all the Booker shortlist books apart from The Luminaries as I set myself the challenge of doing so before the winner is announced on Oct 15th. I’m leaving plenty of time for The Luminaries as it’s 800+ pages long.

10. Whizz to the shops to send my parcel and get in a few weekend essentials

11. Get glam for D’s birthday meal at Tramshed in Shoreditch. I CANNOT wait. We’re also going to the Bull & Last in Hampstead for Sunday lunch on, well, Sunday, which I also can’t wait for.

SL’s FTF, Friday 27th Sept

Hurrah, it’s Friday and my last day at work for 9 days.

Had quite a good day yesterday in fact  (won’t bore you with the details of me trying to get my head round how to do what the VAT advisor has asked me to do, which isn’t at all obvious or easy) and hope to get a few things wrapped up today before heading home to see my parents tomorrow.

  • coffee
  • send club info to woman
  • make a start on minutes
  • collect new suit 12.30, yay!
  • pop home to drop it off and have lunch
  • finish minutes
  • call from another VAT person at 3.00
  • send email to main VAT guy
  • leave instructions for C next week
  • file emails
  • water plants
  • out of office
  • leave at 6.00
  • clear up carnage
  • watch something – possibly indulge in Mulholland Dr again now that I’ve spent a week finding out about all the subtext and millions of things I’ve never noticed before

Have a great weekend everyone!

Cate’s FTF Friday

It’s been a hell of a week or so… we left on Friday for the big job 300 miles away on Saturday and unfortunately I had forgotten my smart, pressed trousers. Luckily there was an Asda and I’m hoping nobody took any notice of the highly flamable £6 extra long trousers I wore instead. 10 hours turned into 14 as all the timings slipped and no food (we ended up stealing a few sandwiches from the kids table). Our hotel room was under a clock tower which chimed every hour and every quarter hour 24-7. When another guest complained at breakfast they were reprimanded, apparently it’s been going since 1903… I can’t tell you how glad I was to finish and finally get home. This week M started his DIY project and I’ve had E for 3 days which to be honest has been really lovely, he is hard work, he does not remain still and he barely sleeps in the day but he is a lovely, happy child (even if I do say so myself, he obviously doesn’t take after me!) Back to it today, I have my last big job tomorrow for a few weeks.

– Day Plan / Formals

– Charge kit / Clean / Pack

– Wash top / Iron / remember trousers!

– Post B

– Check bank

– Reply to emails

– Playgroup at 2.30pm

– Edit something

Oy!  I am sleepy.  And it is snowing outside.  And I don’t yet have snow tires on my car, because the law prohibits using snow tires this early in the year.  I’d take a sick day, but that would mean staying home all day with our house guest, which would be a little uncomfortable.  I’m inclined to go in late to work, after the snow has stopped.  Yes, that’s what I’m going to do.  It’s decided.  🙂

SL’s FTF, Thurs 26th Sept

My meeting with the German woman went well yesterday. She didn’t tell me off too much for the informal arrangements that have grown up over the years, she slagged off HR (I hate HR too! we have so much in common!) some useful things came out of it and at one point she used the expression “Tim, Dick and Harry” which did bring a smile to my face.

Also, I bumped into the feisty Australian on my way into work, who told me the photocopier people had just come back with a proposal and that our lawyer had said to her “do they think we’re stupid?” – she said this with great relish, almost up there with the “I have to be frank with you, it’s going to be uncomfortable” conversation. She’s completely awesome and am so glad she’s on my side!

Today my VAT nightmares continue but I must stay calm and try to remember shelagh_c’s motto “whatever happens, I’ll handle it”. Then one more day and I’m on annual leave for a while which will hopefully take my mind off it.

  • ironing
  • prep delicious salad for lunch
  • coffee
  • VAT VAT VAT all day long
  • possibly with the odd restorative look at the HBR blog and also yesterday I found some stuff on highly sensitive people which explains a lot i.e. how I can be an extrovert yet quiet and needing a lot of sleep and downtime 😀
  • clear up carnage from last night
  • dinner with G
  • make sure he goes downstairs earlier than last night (11.20!)

A friend of mine told me the funniest thing that she is doing at work.  She and her boss don’t get along.  It’s been this way for a long time and is a source of much misery for her.  She has taken a new approach, which is that she is unfailingly pleasant to him each day and doesn’t get drawn into arguments.  Then on a Friday, she removed all of the personal items from her office.  The boss keeps walking by and glancing in, but he won’t ask her what’s going on because of the tension in their relationship.  She’s getting a lot of glee out of messing with him like this.  I would never think to do such a thing and find it pretty hilarious.

Today’s weather forecast calls for plummeting temperatures and possible snow.  Eep!  I can’t really accept that we might have snow.  The days have been full of autumn reds and sunshine, and I’m not ready to let it go.

Today is blessedly meetingless.  I had difficulty focusing at work yesterday and so didn’t accomplish as much as I probably should have, so today I will stay on task and complete all of the turquoise items on my list.
