The REAL Bonus Day!, ftf wren

For years, I’ve had this joking expression that I use with Joseph.  Whenever he makes his little humphing noises, and I call it “The Joe Snort of Derision.”  Last night we were watching The Big Bang Theory, and they used the term “snort of derision.”  How can it be that someone else thought of this very specific little joke of mine and put it into a TV program?  I’m still shocked.

I spent most of the work day yesterday making organizational charts in Excel.  Excel is not the easiest program for this type of work, but I’ve yet to find a better option.  This is all part of the footwork that needs to be done in preparation for laying off a couple employees, including the Queen of Entitled Unpleasantness, who made my life so miserable several months ago, when the funding for their salaries runs out.

Yesterday we found out that our roof will have to be replaced.  Not great news.  Fortunately, we have enough money to pay for it, although we’d prefer to spend that money on any number of other things.

Moose’s Bonus Frosting Day!!

Am in another excellent mood this morning! It helps that the two horrid people haven’t been in this week. Today should be my last day as a contractor so while I am happy to be getting paid for bonus day, from tomorrow I will be happy to be permanently employed again for the first time in almost 2 years. We had some negotiations over the contract but I’m really glad with the deal as permanent part-time jobs are few and far between, especially for 4 days, and it’s a much better deal than my old job for only one function out of about 10 that I used to do! Feeling pretty rosy about it at the moment, let’s see how long that lasts!

Tonight we’re celebrating Bonus Frosting Day with a bit of a pre-wedding arse type get-together at the famous Bill’s, am hoping there’ll be some kind of CAKE with generous amounts of icing!!!

Done:
* morning workout
* morning routines
* look for employment file
* find two great-looking salads for lunch in M&S!!

Today:
* work: payments etc
* languages
* writing
* blog
* pay in cheques at lunchtime
* update lists etc. – I seem to have spent a small fortune ordering bits and pieces yesterday but it does mean a lot of things have been ticked off!

Tonight:
* quick ninja ribbon-sourcing expedition!
* Bill’s Arse!!

SL’s FTF, Wed 29th Feb

Morning all! Wouldn’t it be nice if today were a holiday… oh well.

The programme last night was interesting and basically said high intensity intervals are the way forward, plus lots of activity during the day instead of constantly sitting on one’s arse. I can do the former but the latter is a challenge when you have a sedentary job. Must get back to my walks round Russell Square.

  • coffee
  • make delicious chicken salad for lunch
  • work: finish payroll stuff, meeting to talk about club budget, crack on with VAT return for sub co
  • Arse tonight but in a new location!
  • come home, collapse, continue reading Zoo City which I’m enjoying so far

Bonus Day! ftf, wren

Just when I was getting used to the mild winter and wondering if Spring has got a foot in the door, we are surprised by a big snow storm!  Thank goodness I was able to get to work without mishap.

The most recent memorable note on my Happiness Project Calendar is “write shorter e-mails.”  I’m still trying to figure out how that will enhance happiness.

SL’s FTF, Tues 28th Feb

Things seemed fairly mellow back at work yesterday and there were no disasters in my absence. The screens between our set of desks had also been lowered, which means I can now see C properly, and L has moved over to the fourth desk so she will be closer to me and Ben which I think will be good for everyone.

Today I have my performance review with chief. The last time he set my objectives was in November 2010 and they all seem very far away now. I’m hoping it will be a useful opportunity to find out what he wants from me and if there’s anything I’m not doing that I should be doing. I also hope I can let him know what I am doing because I’m not very good at shouting to the rooftops about it – I just get on quietly dealing with stuff, unlike certain people who are very good at publicising themselves and making a great song and dance about it involving a lot of hot air and rushing about. Figuring out a way of communicating with him will be important and I wonder if I should suggest that I give him an informal weekly update to make sure we do get some face time, as neither of us is the most assertive person! I find it hard to go into his office unless I have a very good reason as I always assume I’m interrupting something more important, but I suspect I’m not 😉

On with today then:

  • 30 x kettlebell
  • coffee
  • work – talk to L, performance review with chief, look up stuff on ESR for B
  • can stay late
  • food shopping
  • clear up carnage from last night
  • watch Horizon which is about interval training and apparently says you only need 3 min exercise a week – hmm!
  • find a new book to read

Vex 28.2.2012

This week I managed to convince N to join me in a “sleep hygiene” experiment. Which means no afternoon naps longer than 20 minutes, no bright screens after 10 pm, and getting in bed by 11 pm. No effects visible so far, but it’s only been one day. And having to get up at 6 again, after a week of sleeping in, is definitely a big shock to the system.

Onwards and upwards:

  • work (meeting, project proposal, probably something else)
  • mail J
  • mail P?
  • cook etc
  • sewing/mending
  • programming
  • exercise of some sort
  • evening routine
